    planning, we've heard of it

    Let's see. We are going to spend 10 or 20 billion quid on a new computer for the NHS so where do we go to buy the software. IBM? Microsoft? EDS? CA? No, let's buy the software from some unheard of company that is already on very shakey financial ground.

    It must be fun buying computer stuff for the government. Doesn't matter if it works of not; doesn't matter if billions are wasted; nobody ever gets fired.

    a-ha, i see you subscribe to the "buy from a big well known IT company and it will all be OK" procurement philsophy. trouble is - that's exactly what the government did - giving the regional contracts to Accenture, BT, CSC and Fujitsu, but the big boys don't write the kind of specialist niche software that the NHS needed, they only provide the middleware, so they had to look for smaller specialist partners to provide the apps. there wasn't time or budget to write a solution from scratch so they had to find an existing solution with the necessary potential. so why not choose iSoft, after all if you look at Microsoft's own healthcare website they are listed as a gold certified partner so they can't be that unknown? damn, if only they'd mentioned accounting irregularities in the sales brochure!
