back to article Welcome to Xanadu-on-Thames

This Sunday the wraps come off what used to be the much-unloved Millennium Dome, and is now the really-hopes-to-be-loved O2. When El Reg fluttered in this week it looked like the opening event was an audition to play the construction worker from the Village People. But it's just that it's not finished yet. It's no surprise …

    AEG

    Hi,

Don't forget that AEG main objective was to establish a mega casino in it but never got the license and following the coverage around Philip Anschutz meeting with John Prescott, he now has some difficulty of backing off the venture (as he apparently promised to do if he didn't get the casino license).

The personality of P. Anschutz is quite controversial, from the origin of his fortune - oil exploitation of sacred native american soils, to his extreme conservatism (largely funding anti-gay, creationist, and "moral values" actions). All of this of course won't prevent him to take money out of gambling (if he had the license) and opening the O2 with shows popular in the gay community (B. Streisands, Elton John, Scissor Sisters). So we can suspect that P. Anschutz moral values stop where his wallet starts.

Of course people, once informed of his background and views are free to choose to feed the hand waiting to slap them...

    Anschutz and morals

Almost every right wing "moralist" I know of twists things to fight his/her particular view of "morality". Right to life. Prevention of death with dignity. Capital punishment.

Amazingly, the God Fearing people of Texas voted to amend the Constitution (which has been amended almost 300 times in the past 160 years) to permit the lottery (to support schools) and then parimutual betting on horseracing. And the busses to Louisiana casinos are packed. But the Baptists preach about the evils of gambling. And I book about a dozen trips a week to Vegas. But they're only going for the shows. The midnight shows, I'm sure.

    everything

Oh they do that for everything in Texas

    murder, slavery, torture, child prostitution.

In fact the only thing the party in power can't

do is take bribes and not share them.
