IPTV over wireless? Why not?

Anonymous Coward

Where can I buy one?

The antennae array sounds like a really good solution. I have lost count of the number of hours I have spent fiddling with antennas to get a good signal, it can make the difference between no connection and perfect connection.

Well, sounds good, but...

I regularly (nightly) stream recorded TV (MPEG4) over WIFI through three floors of a Central London terraced house, without any issues.

Maybe I'm just lucky :)

Radio systems engineering

The traditional approach to radio systems engineering attempts to maximize the use of the radio spectrum, because it is a finite, limited resource that has to be shared effectively by all users.

As the density of WiFi networks increases in an area, they increasingly interfere with one another. Eventually they will all become useless.

The solution to piping television around your house is to use wires - either traditional co-ax carrying base-band analogue or RF signals, or twisted-pair carrying IP network packets. Neither of these will deteriorate because of your neighbors competing for use of the same radio spectrum.

Don't you just

Hate it when those socialists are right for a change? I mean it's not like you can't get a wifi mesh set up the problem is security on such networks.

Although saying that, I'm starting to believe WiFi is a bad idea and we should have never eft the oceans.
