back to article IBM's charming smile attracts Hitachi to 32nm research pact

When it comes to semiconductors, IBM is the friendliest vendor in town. The hardware maker has announced a deal with Hitachi to share costs and expertise around researching techniques for manufacturing very small chips. I get it ..

    ... about the time IBM and Hitachi have figured out the high-k and 32nm production techniques Intel will have 100,000s of 32nm chips out and be prototyping 25nm .. way to catch up !

    Paris, because she even gets it

    "techniques for manufacturing very small chips" ?

    I thought 45nm is track size, not chip size. How do you solder 45nm small chips?

    One can use smaller track size to boost number of transistors (e.g. cache memory and number of processing units) and shrink power consumption while retaining similar chip size.

    @Erik Aamot

    Um IBM were the first company to 45nm, well before intel.

    What makes you think intel will be first to 32nm?
