The thundering noise you hear is the stampede of Swedes, Norwegians and Danes rushing to tell you Finland isn't part of their Scandinavian trinity.
Google has confirmed it will build a data center on the defunct Finnish paper mill it purchased last month for roughly $50 million. In mid-February, global paper-maker Stora Enso announced that Google would shell out €40 million ($50 million) for its Summa Mill in Kymenlaakso, Finland. And Google told The Reg it was " …
To clarify, Scandinavia is so named for the Scandinavian Mountains, the line of hills that bisects Norway and Sweden (which are two halves of the same penninsula) and runs undersea to Denmark. Hence, Scandinavian countries. However, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland are all culturally and historically linked as what are known as the Nordic countries.
@AC: Why wouldn't there be hordes of Finns rushing to tell you the same thing? ;-)

:-) It will matter not a jot to any of them, AC, for I imagine that they are all Well Skilled and Beta Prepared, or have Virtual Contact with they who are so Equipped, in the Ancient Viking Art of Danegeld Power Generation.
And with the Advent of Virgin Cowboys as the Arrival of Google into their Forestry Environments and Deep Fjorded Mindsets may be, is Food for Thought upon which Carrion and Hero alike can Prey and Banquet?

However, it's good news - ish. Economy of Finland is still in reasonable shape (compared to many other countries) although jobs are pretty scarce, which is why I'm still a card-carrying member of the Great Unwashed Society after 18 months.
Of course, how to retrain these wood-pulpers into Linux experts is one I'm puzzling over...
One other benefit - have you ever smelled the stench of a wood pulp digester?? When I first moved to Oulu, if the wind was in the wrong direction, the stench from the local mill literally made me wretch on more than one occasion. Let's hope a couple of thousand white-box PC's don't smell as much.
At least one company (winwind) has had the sense to put a lot of big cooling fans nearby...

This used to be debated endlessly on soc.culture.nordic... Depending on how you look at it, you get different answers. Historically all mentioned countries are closely tied, having been at times ruled by the same king in various combinations. They are still politically and culturally close, despite Finnish not being related to the language of the other three countries. All belong to the Nordic council (together with Iceland). Of course geographically, only the northwestern tip of Finland is in the Scandinavian Peninsula. But it is there, see a map.
But "Nordic" would have been a less controversial reference in the heading.
