You Too Brutus? #
One has to wonder why EMC even bothers releasing this product, given 2-3 years of missteps and with their existing portfolio of SW. If you look at the Magic Quadrant Gartner reports, and other analysts, their market share is so small, that announcing (yet again) another set of products must be confusing as heck to their installed base. The interesting point is EMC is portraying this as "new technology" when other vendors have been in the market for far longer, with far great success.
One can clearly see that upgrading to other platforms which a fair number of the EMC archiving customers have been doing is the "safer bet" and perhaps EMC should just focus on storage HW, which is what they do best. Given the current economic climate, unless this new SW gets bundled for free (or near to), it would be very hard to justify to IT stakeholders why going with an unproven 1.0 product would make any sense.
