Traffic brings down Microsofts servers
Haven't I heard that before somewhere?
Desperate beta testers brought down Microsoft's Windows 7 download page yesterday for about two hours. Only Microsoft Developer Network members and TechNet members were offered keys, but Microsoft still had to make some changes to keep the site up and running. The MSDN blog said "systems are having trouble keeping up" and …
Looks like Microsoft should have tried Bittorrent. All the Linux vendors do it.
They just didn't have the bandwidth for that many downloads.
They should have used a torrent for distribution.
Haven't I heard that before somewhere?
Killed the multi-Gig connection off of the Build server too...
With Windows 7 set for release in Dec. 09, Microsoft is getting ready with their free upgrade program, which allows Vista users to switch to Windows 7 when it arrives.Buy yourself a copy of Windows Vista after 1 July, and you could qualify for a free upgrade when Microsoft's new operating system ships.Details are sketchy as of this point, but strategically, it is designed to mitigate the number of users who are putting off buying a new computer, because they would rather go directly to Windows 7 from XP, rather than deal with Vista.

Tried windows 7, while it was a vast improvement on vista, it still is little different in functionality to XP. So to make full use of my I7 64bit computer I have made the leap to Kubuntu and am loving. it. highly recommend people jump to Kubuntu instead of windows 7.

tl;dnr version, Once you go Linux you never go back!
Be patient, the Vista-like effects will be observable only with the final release...
Tux* likes the smell of a new windows release in the morning. It smells like victory.

I too have discovered this. Specifically, I found that the bugfest know as Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion works great. Under XP Oblivion would crash constantly. Unfortunately getting it to work under Wine was a bit of a chore but once it was working it has crashed a whole lot less than it did on XP.
In old internet days there was a way to get the identity of the web-server; but nowadays the bigger bottlenect might be cascaded behind a freebsd. Any info on what forms the backbone in the MS network ?
