    More expensive? So what?

    Customers have been buying products for reasons other than price for years.

    In the X86 space, HP has typically been 30% more than Dell. IBM 50% more than Dell. You don't see Dell with 100% market share, do you?

    Fortune 2000 customers are used to paying mega $millions for traditional Unix servers. HP and IBM were harldy likely to promote porting applications from HP_UX and AIX to x86 in these situations and few customers were prepared to listen to Dell.

    However, when a game-changer such as Cisco comes in and talks about industry standard servers and virtualization, customers are very likely to listen.

    When the price of Cisco x86 is compared to IBM, HP (or Sun) Unix, the cost looks very competitive.
