China not demolishing Green Dam

Dave Jones

So.......

FAIL

Damn

Citizens have a fundamental human right to choose their operating system, hopefully this important censorware/internet offswitch will be available cross platform.

The important question we are all asking here is "when will it be available for my iphone?"

WhatWasThat?

Distribution

Pirate

Given the capabilities of Chinese distributors with the latest titles from Holly/Bollywood, what stops people from just using the hardware and reinstalling whatever OS they choose? Is this kind of thing monitored by the Great (Fire)Wall?

Has the software been paid for?

If the project was cancelled, perhaps someone would have to give the money back.

I thought only Microsoft got paid for software installed on all PC's whether customers want it or not.

Distribution?

Big Brother

What stops a re-install?

Simple, if you are lucky, you are warned, possibly twice.

Less lucky or if a multiple offender you lose all access to the Internet.

if you are less lucky still you lose, access to travel in country, access to university and/or any chance at getting a job outside off a sweatshop. BTW: they also apply this kind of pressure to relatives.

If the CCP really doesn't like you they throw you into a labor camp until the shoot you and sell your organs to some rich capitalist., then bill the cost of the bullet to any surviving relatives.

Many if the mostly free West just can't seem to grasp how much of a price is paid by those who choose to challenge the CCP in country.

Saving face

When the Chinese say "The government will definitely carry on the directive on Green Dam. It's just a matter of time", what they really mean is "We fu..ed up big time and now we are just trying to save face".

RIP Green Dam.

Now now...

Now now... they don't even require an install, the computer can be shipped with a CD of the software rather than having it preinstalled. So in all seriousness I don't think they're going to crack down on reinstalls, seeing as how they don't even require installation to begin wtih.
