AMD is the company you have to thank for providing competition to Intel, otherwise we'd still be living in the processor dark ages using Pentiums running at 200MHz, paying £1000 for the privilege.
Also, either you're 9 years old or have a very short memory, but it wasn't that long ago that Intel were (albeit temporarily) playing catchup with AMD...
