HP: We will grow faster than IT
If you wanted to make the most profitable and the largest IT company in the world, you would probably not come up with anything that looked like either Hewlett-Packard or IBM. And from our IBM correspondent.... #
".....Either that or HP needs to buy IBM's mainframe hardware and software business....." Erm... isn't that the shrinking mainframe bizz? After all, the PSI affair just showed how much faster and cheaper it was to run mainframe apps on Itanium, which is why IBM felt so threatened that they had to buy the company. If their lawyers can't find a way to kill Hercules then IBM could see a nasty drop in revenue as mainfram "DR solutions" go onto Linux on Itanium instead (which means Linux on hp Integrity in reality).
And why worry about Lenovo? After all, IBM is busy retreating from the x64 server market too now. Soon there could only be the shrinking mainframe bizz to retreat to.
