VMWare. Man, 100 cores would make a great box for an ESX server, even if they are a pokey 1.5 GHz each.
Upstart massively multicore chip designer Tilera has divulged the details on its upcoming third generation of Tile processors, which will sport from 16 to 100 cores on a single die. That will give Tilera bragging rights for cramming the most general purpose computing cores onto a die, although graphics chip makers are already …

Wow! Tilera shows what smart designers can do when they don't have the x86-compatibility ball-and-chain around the ankle. And Linux helps this happen, because it gives any startup with an oddball processor a portable but featureful software stack cheaply.

Yeah, that would be the case if they were x86 which it appears from the article they're not. Then again, do VMWare have a MIPS build?

So like Sun's niagara processors are not multicore?
They've got an 8 thread/core, 8 core chip now out in the market,
there's a 8 thread/core 16 core chip in the lab now. I've seen it.
WTF? Is x86 the only arch that matters these days?
Is intel secretly funding el-reg? I think so.
Sort of like ibm and eweek I guess. These AH's that don't play by the rules
pocket these chump rags where ever they can
