IBM gives big discounts on Power engines
The U.S. economy may look like it is coming out of the Great Recession, at least according to the economists who work for Uncle Sam, who said recently that gross domestic product in the States rose by a 3.5 per cent annualized rate in the third quarter.
That is better than the 2.7, 5.4, 6.4, and 0.70 per cent declines that mark …

Hint of a new POWER chip coming early next year?
#

Dropping the cost of activating cores may be the sign of a new POWER chip coming soon... get people to spend money on old technology before getting them to buy the new stuff!
I can't wait to see the new POWER systems!
Author writes, "The PowerVM hypervisor (program product 5765-PVE) sells for $2,099 per core on this box."
Dang... a customer could buy a old T1000 OpenSPARC platform with hypervisor for less money than you have to buy hypervisor for an existing POWER platform.

More a hint of a panic about Q4 numbers!

Any customer who couldn't negotiate these sort of discounts off CuoD activations from IBM even without this 'offer' really needs to work on their negotation skills! These activations are pure profit so it's a case of name your price! But watch you don't get stung on the maintenance and software licensing!!

GDP is a poor measure of wealth

What they don't say, is how much of that is direct consequence of Fed dumping borrowed cash into banks by shiploads (truckload isn't enough here).
GDP by itself is quite meaningless number.
