    EMC's NAS numbers

A NetApp spokesperson said: "NetApp's NAS numbers as measured by IDC "declined" because IDC counts Data Domain as part of EMC's NAS rev's. Centera CAS too."

IDC tell me that the revenue figures in its quarterly storage tracker refers to factory revenue and not customer revenue. IDC also says if you subtract the external market from the total disk storage market, we have the internal market factory revenue number. This is not all DAS as, IDC says, DAS can be both internal and external, with external DAS connected to a single server by, say, a SAS wire or direct Fibre Channel link with no intervening hubs or switches.
