back to article Sony preps 3D TV upgrade for PS3 telly tuner

Sony is to revamp its PlayStation 3 TV tuner, the PlayTV, for the 3D era. At this stage, details are few and far between, but since picking up 3D broadcasts will require HD compatibility, it is likely to involve new hardware. Anyone else here annoyed

By the selective and mixed up reporting of El-Reg sometimes.

Clearly the statement that PlayTV does not do HD is very UK-Spefic, as the rest of Europe adopted the correct HD standard and PlayTV in it's current incarnation does HD just fine there.

At the same time, you have international tech news that clearly does NOT apply to UK.

Do you want to be a UK Tech news site, a European one, or a global one? Please decide and report to suit CONSISTENTLY.

    Off topic I know...

...but all I want from a PS3 firmware update is the ability to play FLAC files. Is it really too much to ask?

Yeah but when do we get an HD lenticular screen?

3D with glasses is OK for the cinema but will never be mainstream.

What is required is something along the lines of a screen with 2x existing HD resolution and a refresh rate of 200Hz, with a lenticular lens coating. Then we will be able to watch a full HD 3D 100Hz picture without glasses.

    Here's hoping

This is very good news, not least because it would be impossible to even recompile the PlayTV source without in some way improving the user interface, even accidentally. A monkey with a typewriter would also help.

Yes, it really is that bad.

    Re: NEX Series Camera's Sensor

The writer of said article has unfortunately has made a mistake, in said camera series uses the full size APS-C format sensor, as used in the mid range models of the Alpha SLR series, rather than the Micro Four Thirds format sensor as used on Panasonic' s G series, & Olympus'es E-series SLR's and Pen series "Bridge cameras"....

Have you even used PlayTV? The UI is really good. I have no idea what you are on about.

      Agreed ...

... and why *IS* series link still missing?
