Sounds more like the competitor didn't go along and risk illegal price fixing.

Western Digitals similar products have nice sold cases in much better quality plastic.
Plus they've been cheaper than Seagates lately, which maybe accounts for 'due to aggressive pricing from a competitor' quote.
