back to article Ubuntu loses HP cloud crown status

Ubuntu has lost its "top dog" status on Hewlett-Packard's cloud. The computer giant has told The Reg that, contrary to initial claims by Canonical, Ubuntu won't be the "lead host and guest operating system". An HP spokesperson contacted us to say: "While it is true that they are the first host and guest operating system …

    lead: adj,

    1. Primary; most important

    2. First in line or sequence

So the wording was just vague enough to be technically correct AND give the tech press the wrong idea. Good show, Canonical!

When you have the "Number 1 Cloud OS" how much of a back-hander would you need to give to a cloud provider to make sure that they had yours available?

    Is Shuttleworth trying...

...too hard? He wants soooooo badly to be #10, he'll do--and try--anything.

You'd better hope that the Spirit Of Ubuntu is not with you.

way to lose geek cred, dell

kind of like larry silverstein the day or days after the "we/they made the decision to pull it, so we/they pulled it" quote referring to the wtc 7 building where he says that what he meant by that statement was "pull the workers out" not the industry slang "pull it" for controlled demolition.

wormy little dell. somebody's going to kick your ass in meat space!

Trying not to incur the wrath of the giant troll

HP, along with a number of other manufacturers strike me as companies that see the value in Linux and Open Source in general, and desperately want to use it. However they all live under the shadow of a giant troll which they fear would see what they are doing and immediately stomp them into the ground.

Which leads to this kind of befuddlement where a Linux shop announces some partnership and there is a rush put out press releases saying "it's not really that big/important/profitable/etc..."

Ubuntu - or at least Jane Silber -

is still trying hard, as the opening period of Paul Oh's (revised) blog post shows : «... HP has chosen Ubuntu as one of the initial lead host and guest operating system powering their Public Cloud» - note the lack of a plural ending attached to the nouns «host» and «systems». And I who had hoped that the worst we could expect from Canonical was the Unity desktop !...
