back to article Horde of customers storms Dixons – too late to save 2012 sales

A late flurry of consumer spending in the UK boosted Dixons Retail's Q4 sales but came too late to prevent a full-year fiscal 2012 decline, the firm revealed in a trading statement. Same-store revenues fell 3 per cent in the retailer's financial year ended 28 April but were down 1 per cent over the half-year period and …

    I've given up with dixons.

I noticed recently a camera I was interested in at a sale price so I asked for one and was told they did not have any stock, but was told there was some in a store 20 miles away. When I got there I found the same camera, but a £100 more. When I eventually managed to grab a member of staff to inquire, they said the price was wrong, but they had no stock either only the the grubby display model which they very kindly offered to sell me for the same price I could get on the internet.

So apart from poor service and stock control, they appear to be advertising the display model price as a new price. What a waste of my time

Never again will I go to dixons. They staff are unhelpful and have no knowledge of the products they sell, there price is not competitive compared to the internet and they have no idea of customer service.

"PIXmania sales fell 7 per cent... supply chain issues"

Really? That's the reason they give for Pixmania profits falling? Nothing to do with insanely high prices then. Such as year-old PS3 games for almost double RRP, like GT5 Platinum - THIRTY FIVE QUID. And Infamous 2 - EIGHTY QUID!!. That's more than 4 times the price Play ask for it:

I'm surprised Pixmania sold anything in the past year full stop.

One stop shop for great deals, well apparently not.

    no shit 2 ....

that applies to all "High street" shops , and those "out of town" ones.

The only shop with any benefit over the internet is a small indepentant specialist shop on 'dock street' wedged between a chippy and a car mechanics. You will get good service and advice there , if you can find one still in business , but the price wont be that competitive

    Curry's vs Comet

The two stores are next to each other, I was out buying a new Washing Machine a few weeks ago.

Both stores had the same washer. Comet was a clear £100 less than that place next door. And they took the old one away as well.

I might a bit of an old foegy but I prefer to see these sorts of goods in the flesh before I buy.

Being able to visibly compare the different models as they are physically next to each other is a darn sight better than just comparing specs.

    Apple-bound?

"This is not a bad start for new chief executive Sebastian James, who succeeded Apple-bound John Browett in January."

That implies Browett is joining Apple, when in fact that happened last month.

    Meh

    Actually

Normally I'd slag them off but I actually picked up a Blu-ray player in PC World (same as Dixons/Currys innit) for only a quid more than Amazon or Play. Plus I got it there and then.

But I suppose I knew exactly what I was after and didn't look at anything else.

Anyone had to deal with the Curry's call centre recently?

I'm surprised they're still in business at all...
