back to article Job-slashing HP 'to hire 15,000 staff in India' – report

HP may be axing 27,000 staff members globally, but it could be about to help improve unemployment figures in India, with 15,000 hires possibly on the cards. At least this is according to Indian news site Daily Bhaskar, which claims the troubled tech titan has written to Chandigarh city administrators in eastern India to ask …

Time to Boycott Hewlett Packard... don't buy anything from them and let them know why!

Enough of this crap! Do not support these bottom feeders.

It's long past time that people boycott the products of any and all manufacturers that offshore jobs like HP.

There are alternatives for almost everything. Express your feelings with your wallet and your feet.

It is now my policy to only choose employers who don't buy HP for this exact reason. Oh, that and the likely prospect to made redundant by the above.

What goes around comes around... It will be nice to be able to influence another corporations policy on vendor ;-)

    Bean counters

As soon as the bean counters realise you can have four times the staff or a quarter of the costs (or twice the staff at half the cost) it all goes abroad, the companies don't care (why would they?) even companies like RBS (>80% UK government owned) are making UK staff redundant and them employing more headcount in India than they had originally.

      Re: Bean counters

Yes, but then the bean counters start to notice that IT support don't fix anything and the rate of delivery for their in-house apps has slowed to a crawl.

I know of projects at RBS that have been outsourced and have suffered such a fate: their front office CRM used to be released monthly with significant features. it now gets released quarterly with minor bug fixes. Guess what happened to the dev team...

My previous gig at a newbuild nearshoring facility went to Banga, then miraculously we hear that that facility there has gone titsup as well. Stated reasons.... cost (too high)-always escalating for building materials and expensive retaining under-experienced staff, bad timezone for meetings on videoconf, crap code. But hey, they probably spooged only about 10 mil on it total. For around 35 folks ;) Don't worry, they fired the lunatic that was pushing it ... most likely originated as a brown envelope job from the 3rd party directors at the far end.

    Import

Actually what we should be doing is have government charge an import duty when importing these "solutions" from offshore call centres.
