    vmware sinking

VMware income is down, they're in the process of "divesting themselves of more assets" which is a polite way of saying we're going to keep dumping products and competition is everywhere. They adjusted their sales targets down (again) and they're way behind in the public cloud. Why is Gelsinger not returning to Intel? Why is he staying on this sinking boat? Anyone ask him this?

    good

I use and actually like VMware but the cost of the thing is extreamly difficult to justify now if you are a medium sized business.

      Re: good

Couldn't agree more. Other than the essentials bundles they offer it is extremely pricey. We have been looking at Proxmox ('free' but support costs) as an alternative and it seems very reasonable as a fire and forget solution for some production machines and its easier to secure if you want it on the net. Still looking for a good alternative to VMwares discontinued LabManager though, VCloud Director is truly terrible to support.

        Lab Manager

http://thehyperadvisor.com/2013/02/an-alternative-to-a-soon-to-be-unsupported-vmware-lab-manager/ Some good simple alternatives out there and much much simpler than vCD and vCAC (great name!)
