    The problem is ...

    Documentum is a Documentation mgmt product that has always tried to stick with the EMC portfolio (aka, no tape, pls, we're EMC ! and also, sell Centera and pretend to be an archiving product).

    This rarely fitted customers' needs, therefore the decline or lack of ... momentum.

    Also, they used to have very aggressive EOL policies, along with major architecture changes, which would quickly loose customers. You really don't want to do a major update of your doc repository every single 18 months ...

    Indeed, this division never seemed to have had a happy life inside EMC ...
