    Liberty...

    ...is literally a VNX virtual appliance as far as I understand it. Designed so you can move workloads from virtualized arrays to bare metal and back as needed. That's what I'm pulling out of this. Hopefully they get the costs right (as in: free for the first TB or something).

    This has been something of a trend within the EMC/VMware combined family. Call it product/feature overlap, we saw it with VMware NMP and then the release of Powerpath/VE. Same with VDP followed by the launch of VDP/A (Avamar). Same with vSphere Replication. And now this.

    It's a "If you like this, you're going to love this (new feature-rich offering)" approach which seems to work well.

    With the Liberty/VSAN overlap it will be interesting to see if and where the 2 products meet and where they branch out on their own...
