back to article Ever wanted to be a Playmonaut? El Reg's Vulture 2 spaceplane sim reveals what it's like

Last month, we put out call for an X-Plane Plane-Maker bod to enter into a simulating relationship with our Vulture 2 spaceplane team. Straight out of the blocks was Billy Bargagliotti of Memphis, Tennessee, who enthusiastically emailed he'd be delighted to get involved with the Low Orbit Helium Assisted Navigator (LOHAN) …

See, even in simulations some things are inescapable and universal truths, or at least universal trees...

    Talent

Damn Lester, you are attracting some serious talent to this project.

    More content needed in simulator...

    Maybe something like this: http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/07/18/flowers-in-space-azuma-makoto-exobiotanica/

Gives the heroic pilot something to look at while hurtling along.

Is there anything people won't put below a weather balloon?

When can we buy SPB merch?

I want to shop my support with a stratodangle!

  7. Pet Peeve

Can you make a video of a simulation run? x-plane is kind of a nightmare to use if you haven't taken a lot of time playing with it, and unfortunately I never got around to doing that.

Yes, we'll do a vid. Watch this space.

    WTF?

It's all going to beer isn't it.

A DG? Seriously? A project of this magnitude and you can't spring for a HSI?

    Sheesh!

    HSI is for wimps...

... real playmonauts use magnetic trees for navigation.

    Real life landing

A quick question about the landing of the eventual real life mission. Will everything be left to the autopilot or will there be a meatbag pilot waiting at the landing site to take over control if needed?

      Re: Real life landing

We're planning on the autopilot doing the job. If necessary a meatsack will drop his beer and do something amazing.
