    IBM

"IBM is not doing anything of equivalent impact to try and boost its storage software revenues."

No, it is doing quite the opposite by getting rid of pre-sales engineers and sale people. Relying on the "channel" who will promote whatever kit offers the best profit margin / kickbacks was a flawed strategy.

Maybe storage products will be the next sale to Lenovo; they'll just keep specialist devices like SVC that can manage underlying storage from any vendor.

The truth to this is hard to believe unless you are out with customers talking about these topics every day. EMC has done a exceptional job of basically finding a product offering for nearly every IT use-case a customer could come up with. In some cases, 2-3 products that overlap giving customers more choice in both and software offerings than ever before. You can debate all day long who's products are superior, but at the end of the day, it's about options and opportunities. EMC creates a lot of both.
