back to article Gartner, Gartner, on the wall? Who is the fairest IT backup biz of all?

Gartner geeks have issued another rapturous rectangle, otiose oblong, or even a queer quartet of spell-binding squares to do with enterprise backup software and integrated appliances. Yes, it's magic quadrant time again. There are four clear leaders: EMC, CommVault, IBM, and Symantec, with not a lot to separate them. In the …

    Unitrends...

Was a happy PHD Virtual Customer, was then a happy Unitrends customer (after they snapped up PHD Virtual), now a very p*ssed off Unitrends as they're discontinuing the PHD VB / UVB product.

They're pushing customers across to UEB, which for a purely virtualised environment sucks. not least because it has a Flash interface, and misses many of the best features of UVB.

Gartner was (and is) wrong about everything

They lost their predictive souls 20-25 years ago. Why are they still around ?

    WTF?

    The trouble with this nonsense

How the hell do you measure the coordinates?

Why are the 'quadrants' put where they are?

Haha who makes this sh*t up?

Or more importantly, who's paying for it? EMC has the best backup product on the market? You're having a laugh Gartner. How much did EMC pay to put them at the top of this, and that silly storage quadrant?

DING DING DING! We have a winner. It's all nonsense. Businesses pay to get where they are and Gartner says they are wonderful. Not making this up. A shop I was at was poorly rated. They paid Gartner to review, and suddenly they were in the magic quadrant.
