Departure Lounge
GS UK has seen materially declining revenues and lost clients year on year since Emer took over in 2010. They have also failed to win significant new clients - except at a financial loss. It is reported as being due to the Public Sector, but Emer's territory doesn't include any public sector clients - Ian Dalston is President of Government sales.
Whilst there is a strong argument that Emer has failed, and has been failing for a long period of time, there is a wider question about the leadership of Global Services. The obvious problems, and leadership vacuum in GS UK have been reported to the CEO for years explicitly. Additionally, every single month the CEO and CFO holds an operational review with the GS UK leadership team, where forecasts are never met.
Why did the CEO take so long to take action? What does this say about his judgement or his ability to listen to his employees? Do politics count for more than performance at BT?
Finally, given Emer's woeful track record in securing profitable strategic deals for BT Global Services, why has she been given this role? It's obvious she is in the departure lounge, but can BT continue to destroy shareholder value because they haven't been able to take action on the performance of their senior leaders.
