    I guess we could say that if we omit that one instance when Microsoft themselves forgot to renew their very own SSL certificate for Azure causing a global outage?

      That is a stain that is going to take a loooong time to fade.

      And rightly so.

      But Microsoft doesn't need to actively forget maintenance to sabotage things. That happens pretty regularly regardless.

      Azure's an ugly, unreliable cloud. FTFY.

      With TWO control panels, neither of which works properly, confusing infrastructure, high pricing, frequent glitches in webapp uptime, poor performance, crappy billing interface, .....

    Will be something daft again

    These failures always seemed to be caused by something daft - rolling out a patch to the wrong server, or a failure in a switch somewhere.

    All this abstraction of functionality is great, but still need to remember that if the thing at the bottom of the pile breaks and has no failover, everything comes tumbling down.

    Interesting...

    Azure or Google or AWS has a "wobbly day" and it's a headliner, but not a peep about El Reg's "wobbly day". Error 524 or 5 march 2016. Down for hours. Browser - check. CloudFlare (CDN) - check. www.theregister.co.uk - Host error or "dead as a doorknob"...
