Lenovo has patched a dangerous hole in its rebuilt Solution Center that could allow attackers to gain god mode access on hacked machines and to kill running processes including anti-virus. The pre-installed OEM software helps users update Lenovo tools and manage features like firewalls. Attackers with existing but …

    Erm, ok, Lenovo,

could you just quit writing code and stick to what you are good at, like for instance building computers ?

Good, Lord, I'm not wondering how much Lenovo pays those developers but why, oh why, do they pay them at all. No, seriously, when each and any of your customers having more than a pair of neural cells starts by uninstalling all that crap that comes with a new PC, why bother at all with all this bloatware ?

      Re: Erm, ok, Lenovo,

Either some consultant sold the idea to senior management. Or worse, the CEO's nephew came up with it.

When whoever came up with the idea finally realised that they couldn't deliver, they outsourced it.

      Something along those lines.

    What an utter PoS idea.

Where OS is concerned less is more.

Below the OS less is much better.

Has to be asked who else has had this "bright" idea as well?

    It's OK, Lenovo

Your "Solution Center" was uninstalled on day 1 of getting the laptop - you have nothing to worry about.

However, news like this just confirms that you should never trust a hardware vendor to write secure software. Top-tier software vendors are having a hard enough time of it already, and legacy software vendors can be utter crap at it (eh, Adobe ?).

Keeping processes to a minimum is best practice anyway.

    uninstall it to protect themselves.

The whole story summed up in half a sentence.

There must be a word for

calling something the exact opposite of what it actually is. A tactic much loved by the right wing fucktards in the US and hardware manufacturers who foist on us the piss poor excuses for software they come up with e.g. lenovo "Solution Center", Western Digital "Smartware", etc. Lying doesn't quite cover it.

Are they being paid by some in the 5 eyes to do this stuff ? I mean it seams to happen all to often.
