back to article VMware content to run a small and beautiful cloud, with friendly help

VMware's own cloud is now profitable and spinning out innovations the rest of VMware can use, according to Ajay Patel, Virtzilla's exec responsible for all product development and operations for vCloud Air. In the early 2010s VMware's cloud ambitions saw it pursue a strategy of a world-girdling bit barn build, albeit colocated …

    Too little too late

vCA is still pretty much a dead dodo. The world has moved on and (certainly in terms of public cloud), VMware hasn't kept pace. vCA has niche use cases such as DRaaS, but even now there are far more cost effective and elegant solutions such as Azure Site Recovery.

Best VMware stick to what they're good at, and leave "real" cloud to the big three, and I say this as a dyed in the wool VMware guy of many years standing.

vCloud AIR is running on vSphere 5.5, an upgrade to vSphere 6.0 is planned sometime soon, don't know where you got vSphere 6.5 from?

    Still not ready for production

Just last night there was yet ANOTHER "Emergency Maintenance" event taking down the vCloud management portal. Can't tell you how many of these there have been over the last year, but it's an alarming amount compared to AWS and Azure. So glad I signed up for a trial account and started seeing all the outage notifications before actually trying to run any workloads in vCloud. Guess they really are running their own software.
