And now for something completely different
Um well accept not really different.
HP gets to crow a bit for selling more PCs. (PC is anything that you use by the way, personal computer, it is your intiment contact with computational resources. And does not require a hardwire terminal to a central device (large format server, mainframe etc).
Of all the readers of this article do you do more than play games, read/write email, created/edit documents, spreadsheets, trade stocks, update social media accounts. If not then you can use an iPAD for all of that - does it make it a personal computer. Yes unless you are one of the many Adults sitting at the kids table in your local apple store answering email or share your a communal device for all technology interaction.....
With WiFI or 3g/LTE equiped models, Voice over IP can be your phone. WiFi might even be a tad more reliable for mobile calls than your local service provider.
Foxconn rebrander? - not sure if that is an issue or not...I am it's not issue. As long as you like your personal computer device -the way you like it - and as long as you continue to procure from companies that are big proponents of capital markets and also potentially answer to stock holders.
Then a lot of your products are going to be built by a few companies for the lowest price possible using the greatest number of low-cost humans to perform the work.
For Apple - this means a product that the capital market has determined is in demand and they continue to make massive margins on all products.
For HP - that means giving up margin to try and make it on revenue of volume sales.
Either way shut-up
