So says DigiTimes Research analyst James Wang, who predicts global tablet shipments will rocket to 210 million in 2013, an increase of 38.3 per cent on 2012. Re: Surface?

I've read dozens of surface reviews and the general consensus seems to be that it's only useful when a keyboard is artached. It's a notebook first that can be used as a tablet secondly

That's a good thing in my book - i much prefer a laptop (whatever os it runs) than a pure tablet.

Of course you do Mark, but if it was Apple selling the tablet+keyboard combo, you'd be telling us that keyboards are superfluous.

    Names.

While a rose may smell as sweet, it seems a pundit gets a boost from el reg if their name elicits a giggle from pubescent boys.

I’m not complaining. It would be a better world if all the press personalities had 3rd class porn star names. It would be appropriate.

Why are the register pundits themselves given risque pseudonyms? Its not for lack of material and puerility...

I wouldn't be suprised if all the no name Android tablets combined outsold some major brands of tablet this christmas, you can pick up a 7 inch or even 10 inch Android 4 tablet with a better spec than the original iPad (faster cpu, SD card slot, HDMI output, 3G connectivity) for less than £100 from ebay, Amazon or countless other online stores

A serious suggestion for you reg hacks.

It'd be nice if you tagged all these space filling prognostications, and revisited them in an end of year round-up. It would be wonderful to have an article every December where you cover just how wrong all these analysts were.

So the message from the media is that Windows is doomed because no one wants touch, and we should all throw away laptops because the future is everyone using ipads.

10 years time when all i can buy is an apple pure tablet that only runs stuff from the apple store, and even competing android tablets have been banned by apple, I'll be so glad that Windows failed, what with their attempts to force touch on us, and lock down computing.
