Ross Perot's original IT services firm EDS has ceased to be. The brand name disappeared today after the company was bought by HP in May 2008 for $13.9bn. Visitors to EDS.com will find themselves redirected to HP Enterprise Services. HP said the move was "the next major step in a year-long integration of EDS into HP." The …

    Mixed feelings

On the bright side, Yay, EDS is dead, where's the queue to tap-dance on the grave? I spent years struggling with awful services and terrible software fighting managers so that I didn't have to fill in 15 forms just to try to correct the spelling on a users name. Good riddance to them, and can we have all the wasted tax money back now please?

On the down side, without an EDS badge on it, how do we know it's going to be crap?

Will the last one out please switch off the lights

Not technically correct that "EDS has ceased to be" - the change has been announced as it's "becoming" HPES.

So all the cynical b*stards that said HP were only ever interested in the EDS contracts were proven 100% correct - especially with the major EDS, sorry "HPES", job losses that they've pencilled in for next year (already!)

Maybe a good time to raid the EDS brand store and snap up some "closing down sale" bargains, and watch HPES' market share go downwards.

They really have _no_ idea how to run a services business - shame that Mr Perot (Jnr or Snr) can't raise another "A Team" and come and rescue _us_! (Not wishing to downplay the suffering of the EDS Two in Tehran)

    So...

Changing the name will make it any better?

You can call a turd a waste-management-containment-capsule, it's still a turd at the end of the day.

Mind you, HP's name doesn't exactly carry any clout anymore thanks to Mark Turd and his little fanbois (cue Matt!)

    Farewell

    So. Farewell then. EDS

I had a beautifully written EJ Tribb valediction. Ready for your amusement.

But. I can't format it. With El Reg's crappy comments form.

It even had Keith's Mum in it.

But. You'll have to do without.

(Paris cos she's responsible for more cock-ups than EDS.)

    EDS RIP

Perot was just like that twit in 'billion dollar brain'

Big rescue in tehran was basically some local lad driving them unchallenged over the border in the mountains.

I wonder if the grumpy Iranian behavior was due to some crap project that went wrong. Bit like all the government one's we were up in arms about in the UK.

    EDS has been superseded anyway

names like Satyam are far better for outsourcing - assuming outsourcing is doing everything on the cheap and no quality ....

I see what you did there

Anyway, this move is scarcely a surprise, the EDS name has long been a tarnished one, so it's time was running out the moment th eink was signed on the HP deal

    We trundle on

The HP EDS integration has been as smooth as a boundary dispute between neighbours...

    Thumb Down

    Not a surprise

Despite claiming that they wanted EDS as it was a recognised brand as HP couldn't get a foothold into the services market, this was coming a mile off.

    EDS is being bled dry,

The new Marmite or Man Utd/Chelsea

Surely having worked for, or being on the receiving end of the big six none of them are actually better or worse than the other?

(Hint: Its not always the suppliers fault, the customers have a share of the blame – especially their Commercial/Contracts Depts and Senior Management)

Is it that some are easier to love/hate than others due to sensational rabble rousing?

Or is it just more fanboi mentality xbox vs psx, MS vs Apple, Dell Vs Apple, Subaru vs Mitsubishi, Ale vs Lager, Size Zero Models vs Size 12?

" Perot hired an ex-Green Beret to run a rescue mission using mercenaries and existing EDS staff"

Wow, now that's caring about employees.

Nowadays they would give you a P45 if they thought it would save then £200/year.

    Change of name

HP were so enamoured with the Name Monday, they tried to buy the company. Maybe they should call HPES Tuesday or Wednesday?
