Re: Whine whine whine DRM whine whine whine...

However, Diablo is not an MMO.

Re: DRM

No, I am moaning about the always on connection because I mostly played Diablo 1 and 2 singleplayer offline and see no compelling reason why I would need to be online were I to play singleplayer in Diablo 3. But I won't be playing Diablo 3.

Re: Only 85%

I'd say that 85% for a game he was unable to play some of the time is insanely generous. No matter how good it was while I could play it, it would not get more than 50% from me. But since I am boycotting it and all other Activision/Blizzard games (the lack of an offline mode in Diablo 3 is just the latest reason) I'll never know how good it is on the occasions you can play it.

Yes, Diablo 2 has problems that spoiled the game for some people. They didn't affect me because I mostly played offline and only played online with RL friends. That doesn't those problems less real though. I Blizzard is trying to fix that issue in the wrong way, though.

While I can understand Blizzard hosting the online game to reduce these issues, it will never eliminate them. The lack of a true offline mode makes me believe this is more about promoting their item marketplace than preventing duping and scamming. That is just a happy side effect.

Re: Point 57 of a litre please.

The corner shops around here sell milk by the pint but the supermarkets sell it by the litre. Strange.

Re: Could it have something to do with...

Hmm I think you have a point there, but doesn't Xbox use Netflix?

Not That Andrew

Re: Really??

Hmm, try using the official NVidia drivers. The open source Nouveau drivers often have issues with recent hardware. For full support its better to use an older card (2 or 3 years should do).

Re: Seriously?

I'd heard about the child porn problem, but I wasn't aware Google had links to the far right.

Re: 'Cracked' DVDs

Yup, every time I here one of those DVD's go "thunk" in the post pox I wince. Haven't received any unreadable ones yet, luckily.

And their streaming service is still pants. You would have thought Netflix opening here would have given them a boot up the jacksie, but no.

Re: Random thought

ISP's have never really just been "dumb pipes" in the UK. And they do attempt

to block child porn here (the whole Internet Watch Foundation thing)

Re: Am I to assume

As I pointed out to an Anonymous Coward earlier, copyright infringement is hardly on the same level as child porn. Why do people insist on making this false comparison?

And just because founders of TBP behave in an obnoxious and often manner doesn't make it right. Or should we also block the websites of the BNP and any other organisation you find distasteful?

Re: iTunes exclusives?

So is that why Netfix and Lovefilm have such a craptacular selection for streaming? Is all the good stuff iTunes exclusive?

Pirate

Is it ok to note that if you visit the Pirate Parties website you might find enlightenment, among other things?

Not That Andrew

Re: Seriously?

While Google is a certainly a better source of links to download pirated material, that its not the only thing they do. They also sell advertising. Whereas TPB only provides links to downloads, the vast majority of which is copyrighted material they do not have the right to distribute

Not That Andrew

No, You need to get real.

Are you serious or just trolling? Copyright infringement is hardly on the same level as child porn.

Re: Yes, it is rather puzzling

It is rather puzzling, maybe St Steve's muesli was disagreeing with him, or something. Nonetheless St Steve did, and El Reg and the writer of the review (Ashley Vance, IIRC) have been on Apple's blacklist since.

Re: You just don't get it do you?

You just don't get it do you? If I had anything to hide I wouldn't be bitching about this on a public forum. This is just more security theatre, inconveniencing genuine travellers and having absolutely no impact on the movements of terrorists.

Re: Oh look! Another excuse to bash apple!

Actually, Apple started it when St. Steve the Astonishing of Cupertino excommunicated The Register over a critiacal but honest review of the Beta of OSX many years ago.

Re: A big piss over nothing

Don't give me your "If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" bullshit. Why do the septics need to know that I flew to Barcelona last week?

Re: Counter historians

"A story claiming that elephants can fly does not become true (or 'not false') because the story also happens to (correctly) point out that elephants have trunks."

In this case a better analogy would be a story about elephants having trunks making the false assertion that elephants can fly. That does not negate the main thrust of the story which is that elephants have trunks.

There are many things wrong with Ofcom and the concept of Quangos as a whole, but choosing this case as an example of what's wrong is just being plain contrary (or a magnificent troll on your part).

The worst thing they did in this case was not objecting to NewsCorp's effective control of BSkyB at a much earlier stage (despite numerous complaints). And while they blocked the takeover they seem willing for the effective control to remain as status quo.

I could have sworn it was piracy that was destroying gaming - and all the time it turned out to be second-hand games.

I'll agree with you that Tintin takes itself far too seriously, but IMHO the only ones that have dated badly are the early ones - Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, Tintin in America and of course the ridiculously offensive Tintin in the Congo

Re: Six down votes............ this is madness

Actually the original Tron is also pretty pants, even though it has some shiny for it's day FX. The sequel doesn't even have the excuse of groundbreaking FX it's just painful. But by no means the worst movie ever.

The worst movie I have seen is some execrable kids movie which my brothers spawn dragged me to when I was babysiting it. Thankfully I forgotten it's name, but the scars will remain. And there was a perfectly good Harry Potter movie showing at the same time, but nooo, it had to see that piece of shit.. I don't think the other moviegoers appreciated me yelling "You've got a goddamn gun! Just shoot the fucking squirrel!" at the screen.

Re: Count me out on Metro

You don't like Microsoft's "We know best" attitide, but you are switching to Apple, the company that epitomises that attitude? I could understand switching because Metro is crap and OSX is a far better UI than Metro, but switching to the kings of control freakery because Microsoft are getting too controlling? Are you off your meds?

Re: Re: RE: Not That Andrew - I was wrong, they did decrease

Actually I was wrong in my above posts, but not in the way you believe. Firearms offences have actually decreased.

I found some more up to date and comprehensive statistics. From 2005/6 to 2010/11 it would appear that firearm offences in England and Wales have decreased from 11,088 to 7,024. If you include airguns which most official statisticss include by default, the decrease is from 24,094 in 2003/4 to 11,227 in 2010/11

Re: RE: Not That Andrew

I stand by my point. Gun and violent crime have remained constant in the UK. Gun crime only increased 40% in the 2 years following the gun ban if you consider arrests for possessing a previously legal weapon. Aside from those, there has been no statistically significant change since 1997.

Re: "they want to tidy up the Earth's atmosphere"

Almost all of them. Most satellites are in Low Earth Orbit in the (lower) Exosphere (some are in the Thermosphere). LEO is where almost all of the junk is as well. Then there are the satellites in Medium Earth orbit which is still in the Exosphere, as far as I know . Don't think High Earth Orbit is, though, but there are very few up there.
