Picked up a TZ in the departures on the way home from Japan last November. Bought an extended 2 year warranty from the Sony UK shop, but when I tried to register it online they said they only support European products. Girl on the phone even suggested I go back to Japan to get an extended warranty from there?!
(Anyone know how the hell I can extend this warranty from here?)
if you're going to buy an alienware then getting the extra 3 year warranty is a must. I now have a £2000 brick. Lesson learnt the hard way!
While it worked it was great. I had a 17" m7700 which is a model of a few years ago - I must admit I bought it after reading a review of it on here.
my admuncher program i use to remove adverts grabs the page before the browser displays it. It then removes all code about banners, ads, popups, etc etc before it passes it to the browser to display.
Surely an antivirus program could be made to work the same way, and remove any virus / malicious code before passing it to the browser?
had one of the original ones back in November but sent it back as it broke, ended up with a refund as they couldn'd find me a replacement. Picked up a 11" Vaio TZ in Japan in December which, although a whole different ball game to the eee, has been good. Problem is im scared to take it places my car might get broken into etc. So gonna get one of these new eee's.
got an invite to join the beta a while ago and installed the office add-on thing. Used it a couple of times to save documents from home for opening at work, and vice-versa, but I still find it simpler just to email myself a copy of anything like that I might need..I always forget to take my usb stick with me so end up doing this quite a lot. Your meant to be able to allow other people access to your 'space' so that many of you can work on documents simultaneously, but I havent tried that yet.
although its commercial software Admuncher is really good. Parses all the html before it gets displayed and removes all banners, adverts, popups etc etc a lot better than adblock, and also removes ads from messenger etc.
Think it cost me about a tenner, had it since 2002 and best bit of software ive bought in a while. I signed up for theyre partnership thing too.

Latest firmware version is 2.0.151 (Updated 12/31/2007)
Bricked my first eva8000 with a much earlier beta of the firmware last summer (amazon replaced that within 24 hrs - was impressed) but the newer versions of the firmware are a lot better, and include a much improved UI as well.
Still some minor quirks to be ironed out, but they are active on the support forums and have included a fair few of the users feature requests.
1080p mkv plays fine for me with the latest firmware over wired lan.
