RE: A Mac users perspective on W7 #

You wrote all that just to say "I'm a Mac fanboi - I don't need Windows7"?

Wow.

I like Win7, I have done since the beta, thru RC1 to retail. It works, it's faster than Vista, prettier than Vista, more stable than Vista.

My fave feature is the "drag-window-to-edge-of-screen-to-resize-it-nicely" trick. :)

IT, Mike speaking...

I started my role in IT support 2 years ago in a company which had no such previous position. I was allowed to expand my roll as much as I liked, which has been fantastic.

I often talk to people about what's going on, where things are changing and what they think could be done to make our services better. Some of these things come to fruition, others don't, but it has helped a lot of frustration get washed away.

I'm also the face of IT. I've improved the perception of the IT dept (wasn't hard - it's not easy for two guys to implement new systems, maintain current systems and support the end users), which has really helped me stay employed during the recession.

MoDaCo

Another frustrated Orange customer here. With an invalid s/n, I just gave up. I've now installed the MoDaCo patch with very few issues, and it's wonderful now! It really is how it should have been at the beginning. I'd like to see a review of this phone now that it's been updated. I'd dare say it'll get that ever elusive "iPhone killer" title...

Mozilla mauls Microsoft on IE, Windows 7 bundle

Mike Dyne

I'm sorry...

but it's a Release Candidate... get over yourselves Mozilla!

Jesus, you'd think MS were evil for bundling their browser with their OS.

If people want FF, they'll download it. Christ it's pretty much the first thing I do when I install Windows.

You want a bigger market share? Then do some large scale marketing of your application - don't expect MS to bundle it with their OS just because you feel left out.

@Linux fools

Yes, Linux works with fewer system resources, well done.

Thing is, I really quite like my iTunes 8 with genius playlists, my games, my music production software.

We use Windows for a reason!

I love this Win7 beta tbh. Tis Vista with XP performance. It's only fallen over when I've tried running iTunes' visualisations (which I seldom do anyway)...

Go MS. You finally seem to be getting the hang of this OS malarky!

EC will force users to pick a Windows browser, says Microsoft

Mike Dyne
IT Angle

Is it just me....

but who thinks this is all a little silly now?

Let's make some real sweeping generalisations here. There are 2 types of people who use computers, us IT goons on here and every other IT site, and then the rest of the world.

Now, we obviously care about which browser we use. Some of us want addons, some want security, others want porn mode. But the other people, those normal people who know that the internet works by clicking the "Big Blue E", do they really need this? Do we really need to bamboozle them further.

The way I see it is that by bundling one browser, MS are giving everybody all they need. Lets face it, if you don't like IE, you fire it up once, download the setup file for your browser of choice, then leave IE to rot in software hell.

Demand for consoles, add-ons skyrockets as PC games plunge

Former PC Gamer

I used to be a PC gamer. An avid one at that. Thing is, I just can't be arsed with it anymore.

I now have a 360.

No longer do I have to install games, check specifications, update drivers, update the game, reconfigure the controls, buy new hardware, find help in a forum, crack the exe for NOCD...

I just put my game in, and play. If there's an update, I press (A). That is all.

Also, FPSs are finally becoming good on consoles! :)

Hard to get a job?

Sorry, but I just don't get it...

So that's 2 jobs, in less than a year, with no qualifications and less than a years experience.

In the end, my current job gave me a pay rise, but the point still stands...

Windows Vista has been battered, says Wall Street fan

Mike Dyne

@Martin Beckett

My PC came with Vista installed, and I had no downgrade option.

You ask if people have benefitted from Vista. I can honestly say, no, not really. I'd imagine my PC would run XP in a much smoother way, and probably a little faster.

The thing is, I don't really care. It does what I need, and it does it in a stable environment. Granted all I do is browse the net, listen to music and use a few guitar related apps, but still, it works, no questions asked.

This is all I need.

The question is, would I benfit from downgrading to XP? The answer, barring a slight increase in speed, would be no.
