The key to safe driving?

Phil Irwin

Doesn't matter.....

Doesn't matter if it can tell whether you've stopped and still have the engine running or not.

Legislation states that to legally make a phone call, you must have pulled over AND turned off the engine.

How does it know if your the driver or just a passenger in a car you sometimes drive? Does it require one key per person which is tied to the mobile of that person? Could be costly on keys in a large family!

"The result - though you might think it obvious - the harder your work, the more energy you expend and the more weight you lose."

Yeah I do think its obvious, possibly because it is obvious, glaringly so!

Is this really the product of three years study?

Paris , because even she could have worked that one out!

LG displays world's largest circular LCD

How...

...do they propose getting a rectangle picture to fit without either distorting the image OR cropping the corners.

Thats impossible.

Just putting the rectangle within the circular screen would just be the same as mounting a normal LCD screen in a circular tv frame would it not?

Cant see this being useful for normal TV usage.

There are other natty uses that can be found though Im sure.

How about making big ben digital - when they can make them big enough!!!

Price price price....

Until BR Discs are as cheap as DVD or pretty near they wont be bought on any scale.

The difference between a BR movie played on a ps3 via a HDTV and the same movie on dvd upscaled by the same ps3 onto the same HDTV is not worth the fairly hefty cost difference.

The quality gained by going from upscaled dvd to BR is no where near the jump that VHS to dvd was.

Price

Price....the single biggest thing that will stall Blu-Ray's adoption into the mainstream.

Not everyone can see the difference between normal DVD and Blu-Ray, so why would that group spend up to 50% more for the same movie on Blu-Ray over DVD?

Especially when upscaling is taken into account.

When the price of discs start dropping, I think we'll see more uptake.

Dragons Den...

Wasnt a similar idea featured on Dragons Den?(http://webhelperbrowser.com/blog/2006/08/dragons-den-ep1-or-i-was-wrong.html)

Seem to recall every one of the Dragons slating the idea, saying it would never work.

He did pitch it as a media centre though, rather than the interactive organiser etc that this looks like it will be.

The demo video on the MS Surface site look great.

The taste of sweet sweet humble pie!

What a joy (from the point of view of someone who went the PS3 and Blu-ray path) to see MS come crawling (alledgedly) to Blu-ray now their gamble went pear shaped!

It really really must be stinging!

Should Europeans pay to receive phone calls?

"when you call someone using Skype you pay for your part of the connection, by eating into the usage cap on your broadband connection; and the person receiving the call does the same. You each pay for your part of the connection."

Sounds more like an opportunity to charge two parties instead of just one for the same phone call to me.

Will the charges to both parties add up to the same as the current single charge to the caller only? Doubtful! Is this not yet another example of creating problems where there are none!
