user error 404

my favourite user app bummer is some genius hardcoding the server name or IP address, compiling the code and then losing the source. Hurrah! Trying fixing that in 5 years time -

"but i said we'd support all these apps - can you not just write a script to scan for all the hardcoded IP addresses in the code & change them....?"

"Well see it's COMPILED code - so we'd need to write a script that would magically locate the old CD with the source on it down the back of a filing cabinet in a skip somewhere; stick it in the CD-ROM drive & then scan that....."

Did once hear about a wonderful chap who wrote some very specialized stuff for the MOD & documented it all in Welsh, hence ensuring his support contract going forwards,,,,
