What if everyone just said 'Nah' to tracking?

Martin Marv

Re: But How ?

I use Blokada on my Android device. It's a "VPN" that blocks DNS requests for known tracking/ad domains. It does rely on me trusting a random third party - but it's a specific single random third party rather than hundreds of unknown ones

Re: Interesting

Well - it does have the popup thing that works OK in Chrome for Android. It's not as smooth as the Dolphin integration, but it avoids copy and paste on most sites

Maybe they can go through an ageing stage, even if its massively accelerated

I agree. This info-deck from Martin Fowler is nice in that it extracts some of the more important concepts about Big Data from the buzz-word itself:-

NFC isn't just for payments (/stealing credit card and passport details). It's also used to communicate between devices (like the new Nexus Q)

Other weird technicity

In the later Girl-W... books, Larsson seems obsessed with Hotmail accounts at the expense of any other webmail, and ICQ as a current method of people keeping in touch, as well as Yahoo Groups. Maybe that's just the way they roll in Sweden...

Is your cameraphone an oxymoron?

A fairer test...

... would have been to compare the camera-phones with a digital compact, which is more the market that they're trying to compete with. We're a long way off anything the size of a mobile phone competing with a DSLR!

Sort out Customer Service

I think it's good that DSG are trying to keep at least some high-street (/retail park) presence and revamping their stores accordingly, but the main reason I don't shop in any of their outlets is the appalling customer service. If something goes wrong with anything you buy from Currys/Dixons/PC World, then you are in for a world of pain trying to get it repaired/replaced/refunded.

Whereas, if I buy from (e.g.) Debenhams, or Comet, I know that my problem will be dealt with sympathetically and efficiently. I'll happily pay a 5% mark-up for that!
