Re: @Perlcat RE "independent conservative democrat"

Sounds just like European mainland and its 'Christian Democrats' - usually a bunch of right-wing non-democratic fundamentalists (with 'mental' being more to the fore than 'christian')

Re: Great but . .

It's only a deilvery truck.

Not long before it's painted brown and has 'UPS' on the side.

Re: Go SpaceX -- waste?

Space gives us mobile phones, SatNav etc etc.

Experiments in space can give us much more.

Emails

I only get the 'Facebook' emails on accounts that are not even on the same provider as the one used to register with Facebook.

Stop

LLU !

It's always narked me that Virgin did O.K. from LLU but refuse to do the same with thier green boxes.

I can't get any more than 37meg as I'm FTTC with a bit of OH chucked in but there is a nice green pipe that goes just outside my house with an outlet next to the wall . . .

M3

While driving on the M3 there is a sign that instructs a possible Lord of the Rings character to take the next exit.

"Legoland leave next exit"

Untick

There's a few odds and ends of software now that have tick boxes to install Chrome -- I wonder if it's just the standard 'Gimme, gimme, I don't want to read anything' click and go.

Elmer Phud

Phew

Does this now mean we don't have to go cap in hand to the Russkies or Chinese or Indians in order to chuck stuff in to space?

The West can sleep safely in thier beds for a while . . .

Re: Presumably this means...

"In addition the figures supplied provide no breakdown on the number of UK computer hacking prosecutions that actually resulted in a conviction. "

Or that the cases have been a bit too loose and either thrown out, dropped or found not to be hacking after all. As 'hacking' has become more closeley defined it's a lot harder just to point and accuse.

Elmer Phud
WTF?

Reg or . . .

. . . Daily Mail?

Each time there is the merest mention of 'Anonymous' we get a flood of cut and paste comments about LawanOrder.

I can only l assume that:

a, the posters have never been any younger than 35 or 40

b, they have never, ever, shared anything in their lives, not even a flu virus.

Re: GOOD FOR YOU GM

Hmm, where are many 'GM' vehicles made?

How much of the 'American' vehicles are merely assembled in the U.S.?

Like us, you'd be scuppered without the Japanese and Chines and Koreans

When I were a lad . . .

. . . we used the Hosts file to block with.

With AdBlock I tend to strip back as much of the adserver URL as possible to save time later.

With Facebook and the current 'news feed' or the new 'here's something the bloke in the pub's brother's mate's dog looked at' there is the option to turn it off.

I am tempted to turn off AdBlock to see what ads are aimed at my minimalistic and totally bogus 'personal details'.

I like it that GM it to keep its free Facebook page - the big firms are learning from the punters.

Paris Hilton

Data?

I'm curious to know what the value of the software is based on.

Is it full-price, just released or discounted or what?

Is some bundled elsewhere asa a freebie?

And how do they know how much is pirated?

Paris - as I haven't a clue how big the problem is

So, why not block the GPS?

According to several 'cop' programmes on telly it's what crooks do all the time.

If that's the case there is no knowing when you are about to enter the twilight zone.

Cyclists can come badly if colliding with a wandering phone user.

I would suggest the use of an Air Zounds horn but the happy wanderers tend to freeze like rabbits in a spotlight.

So, the Stoneybridge has no trouble with playing 'videos' - or is it 'vidayos'

(sorry, just had a Morwenna Banks moment)

Elmer Phud

Re: Is Creationism creeping into science?

Nah, sleep easy.

There is a lot of 'created' that even on the telly the quotation marks can be heard - it's a bit lazy, being used as shorthand but it's fairly common.

( they do it to wind up thier fellow Evolutionists)

Re: Anthropomorphism

I have been 'reliably' informed that stars are the homes of Angels (apparently it needs capitalisation), how cruel it is for humans to be gleeful at the death of countless spirit beings.

Hopefully, The Flying Spaghetti Monster (all hail His Noodleness) was not in the vicinity at the time.

Re: Verify or die

I know someone who puts in answers like that on forms at the local Job Center.

So far he's never been asked to clarify why he would want to be a megolomaniac bent on world domination.

There's a timeline on the Guardian site that shows Hunt's involvement quite clearly.

Elmer Phud

Elmer Phud

Same old, same old

"The ISP said that following the closure of that office it expected to effectively outsource "200 new roles at Preston through the appointment of a new strategic partner to manage the existing site and some of its operations". "

'expected' is a variable and usually leans towards 'not a hope, sunshine'.

Doncha just love how 'outsourcing' is now 'stragegic partner' -- no, it's shifting the dirty stuff elsewhere. 'Effectively' just means 'getting rid of'.

There used to be 'Boardoom bingo', is there a 'Restructuring bingo' sheet out there?

Blimey

Have I stumbled across Fox News comments or sutin ?

It's the 'fuck everybody - I want my porn' attitude that stinks.

Everyone wants the benefits and would prefer to not hear about the costs.

Or, rather, would prefer that the air looks like that of the permanent haze seen on TV at the Chinese Grand Prix - as long as it's 'there and not here'.

Yup, fuck everyone else, I don't care.

How that makes Greenpeace a bunch of Communists or Marxists I have no idea.

Sarah Palin must love you lot.

Elmer Phud

Apps?

Bloody hell I'm feeling old so soon.

It doesn't seem that long ago when this was all about Facebook or similar.

The credit card companies (or someone) need to release an app where you can prevent this from happening - it shouldn't be too hard.

Elmer Phud

Re: Will avoid, lesson already learned

Had this once with a dining table leaf - it was a different finish to the other one.

Took it back , replaced, went home - right one but damged.

Took it back -replaced, opened there and then, wrong finish -- but noticed that the packing was slightly different between the two finishes.

Chat wth manager and we went and checked - yup, we could tell which finish by which factory had packed them.

Sorted - actually good service as they were happy to go beyond "It fits" or "it's the right code" or "replace or refund". It helped a lot that I wasn't one of the screaming complainants who had done stupid things and were blaming it all on the returns staff . Been on that side if it, symapthy helps.

To be honest - I'd prefer Ikea for someting like that than one of these cheapish beds with a flat screen on a lift.

Elmer Phud

not quite

BT are interested in the same places as the rest of them .

This is no different from a few years back when Broadband was being offered by world+dog+tiscali.

In exchanges where there are several different operators it's an idea to check what they are all offering as regards speed - if there is only BT offering BB from an exchange it's 'cos the others can't be arsed.

Then along came the poorly implemented LLU where existing cabling and cabs not belonging to BT were never considered (why Virgin etc were not forced to share I have no idea)

But who, now, looks after the external side?

If the Virgin box just up the road (with ducts that go right past my house) had been LLU then I wouldn't have had to settle for FTC with the last 10m as O/H.
