Yeah, who could have foreseen the foul-up outsourcing security to that guy at the mall would bring.

Acer founder: 'Tablets, ultrabooks just a fad'
doesn't that make him a good person for this since that's how they've made their money
Wouldn't a company which has made it's money based not on leading edge innovation but instead on being correct about what fads to chase and what to avoid be a reasonably likely source for good guesses on what fads are or are not going to be putting desktops out of business? I see Acer is doing a tablet, it's just that the guy doesn't think it and other tablets are offing PCs.

Greenbird sail-car wafts in as future of zero-emission motoring?
explaining
"can someone explain how it can go faster than the wind that is pushing it?"
Google "Greenbird" go to their site and click on "How it works". BTW, there was a post and comments on this wind-powered "faster than the wind" on Good Math, Bad Math a while back (http://scienceblogs.com/goodmath/2008/12/the_real_bozo_attempts_to_aton.php) where MarkCC, to his credit, apologised for calling the guys who demonstrated such a "faster than the wind" device bozos when he himself just didn't understand how it worked. The subsequent comment thread (and the threads in his previous posts on the subject) do a lot of explaining about how this works, including the math if you're into the nitty gritty.
Did TomTom test Microsoft's Linux patent lock-down?
How secure is MS's patent in this respect anyway?
"How secure is MS's patent in this respect anyway?"
Microsoft could spend millions of dollars per day forever for lawyers; tying up things in courts for years makes any patent pretty "secure", no matter its actual legitimacy. Look how long SCO kept things going with a fraction of the legal resources.

Police likely to ignore Brown's cannabis changes
"lethal"? What's he been smoking?
Let him show one death from "this more lethal part of cannabis" first. Not driving while stoned, which can and should be regulated, but lethal pot use.
From the handy-dandy internets thingie:
"According to which US Government authority you want to believe, the lethal dose of marijuana is either about one-third your body weight, or about 1,500 pounds, consumed all at once.
"In summary, enormous doses of Delta 9 THC, All THC and concentrated marihuana extract ingested by mouth were unable to produce death or organ pathology in large mammals but did produce fatalities in smaller rodents due to profound central nervous system depression.
"The non-fatal consumption of 3000 mg/kg A THC by the dog and monkey would be comparable to a 154-pound human eating approximately 46 pounds (21 kilograms) of 1%-marihuana or 10 pounds of 5% hashish at one time. In addition, 92 mg/kg THC intravenously produced no fatalities in monkeys. These doses would be comparable to a 154-pound human smoking at one time almost three pounds (1.28 kg) of 1%-marihuana or 250,000 times the usual smoked dose and over a million times the minimal effective dose assuming 50% destruction of the THC by smoking.
"Thus, evidence from animal studies and human case reports appears to indicate that the ratio of lethal dose to effective dose is quite large. This ratio is much more favorable than that of many other common psychoactive agents including alcohol and barbiturates (Phillips et al. 1971, Brill et al. 1970). "
