Great trolling. You did well to ignore that TuGo has been available on iOS for ages. You could well out-do someone's expensive iThing, but only if they are on O2 and they have chosen not to download and use TuGo.

When I was in India in 2006, I was sitting on the rooftop of a hotel overlooking the Taj Mahal on a day when England had done something impressive Vs the Indians in the Test Match. A local journalist and photographer was in the hotel interviewing people about the cricket (I don’t know why) and asked me to pose for a photo to go in the paper. I was asked to hold up my digital camera (in its case) to my ear, pretending I was listening to the match on a little radio, look happy and hold up a few fingers for the number of wickets just taken. I still have the paper as a cool if not somewhat random souvenir, although I have no idea what the article says as its all written in Hindi. I sometimes wonder if the first two words are “gullible tourist…”

Isn’t it a proper noun? Why would it need translating? I know of course there are translations of names, (Londres is London for example) but this is an invented trademark.
Genuine question, as I’m surprised there would be official advice on alternative spellings as companies normally protect their trademarks to the hilt.
Is it just because of the difficulty of pronouncing it? Wouldn't they trademark an official re-name for Spanish speaking countries?
If you didn’t see any benefit to it then I have to question your eyesight. The quality of a blu-ray over a normal DVD is immense. I don’t re-buy movies that I already own on DVD, but any new movie I get is blu-ray (apart from the old impulse 2-quidder in HMV back in the day when you could actually find an HMV). Its personal obviously, but on a 5 year old Samsung LCD and a PS3, the picture quality is fantastic. I hope blu-ray doesn’t go titsup as downloading (and storing) full HD movies is, at the moment, and for me, a proper pain in the arse
Remember, profit is what's left after costs, and when Amazon UK pays Amazon US for a piece of IP, then that's a cost and profit is reduced, but it's also keeping money within the company without actually making a profit. Yes, Amazon US then has that money, but they then have costs of their own. Maybe to Amazon DI (Desert Island, me hearties!).
And by the way, I have nothing against that. If it's legal, then they should do it, so I suppose privateer is a better term for that icon than pirate.
It means due to the combined size of the ad and the top pic on the homepage, you have to scroll down an entire screen to even read the first headline. Bit of a pain to be honest (and I would have thought your advertisers would prefer users not to automatically have to scroll away from seeing their ad).

In order of what I see, top to bottom: Reg banner, massive microsoft ad, "Top Stories/Most Read" banner, big picture, then first headline (Then a few pictures alongside headlines, then normal headline/sub headline list).
Also, there are no icons in the comments section (I know you said you have work to do on the comments, so I hope this is on the list)

While I know there is an obvious difference between copying and stealing, in that copying doesn’t deprive the original owner of the thing itself, an analogy is if someone steals the plant pots from your front garden, have they not committed a crime, just because it was easy to do? The plant pot wasn’t fixed to the ground. There is no fence around the front of my house. So it was a very insecure plant pot, it was fair game and I deserve it?
No, I don’t think so. I think he’s guilty. Whether it deserves over 3 years in prison is something else, but there’s no way his conviction should be overturned, based on that line of defence at least.
I think the news/rumours of this takeover interest have been known for a while, and so the market would have priced in the premium already. I.e. they got excited about a potential takeover and the price went up, meaning the shares are already trading above what they would normally be if it wasn’t for this takeover interest.

How can they get away with saying that when the Judge has just ruled that they didn't infringe? Until any decision in any appeal does come, Apple did not infringe.
Oh, and I really shouldn't have to do this, but this being an El Reg Apple article, I need to make it clear I am not a fanatic of either company, own products by both and was not paid for my opinion (thus covering the usual gripes of people who simply have a different opinion to mine).
Calm down mate, they're just a consumer electronics company. Buy it if you like it, don't if you don't. I know it's not really the done thing around here to have an apathetic view of Apple and its rivals, but some of us just can't get angry at a gadget company.
Plus, it's an advert. They are hardly going to say their product is a relatively minor iterative update are they. That's how adverts work. It's the same as getting angry at John Lewis for using a cutsie-poo animal friendship in their ads. It’s all bollocks and we're all free to shop where we please for whatever reason we choose.
Err, no. A conflict of interest may arise if he held shares in a direct competitor. Loads of employees have shares in the company they work for. They are an incentive for you to contribute to the company's performance to help get the share price up. If you are wondering about insider dealing, directors of listed companies in the US at least have to declare in advance their plans to buy and sell stock in their own company. This is publicly available info and can be quite interesting ("oh look, the finance director must have needed a new house")
Why use anything else really?
Cost - Not everyone has a contract with inclusive “free” SMS
International - Even with a contract, texting to international numbers can cost (if it works at all – in my personal experience I have had problems with international SMS)
International – Same deal when you yourself are abroad sending back home
Sending media - Even with a contract, sending a photo, for example (MMS) can cost
Group messages - SMS can send to multiple people at once but they all receive the message individually, I think.
Yes, there are things like email to get around these limitations, but an app that is free or has limited cost and can be used “free” (yes, you might be paying for the data connection/wifi) is much more appealing.

I was working for Intel on my Uni year in industry when Centrino came out. I still probably have a lot of the branded marketing guff if I dig around. For some reason we all wanted the Bunnymen (little toys of the protective-suited folks in the Fabs) rather than the mouse mats and whatnot. This doesn’t add much to the discussion I suppose but as I sit here in corporateland, its fun to reminisce about being paid like a proper worker but still getting to act like a student.

While it may seem great to be paid for doing nothing, I get bored out of my brain when I have nothing to do at work for longer than a day or so. There’s only so much out there on the internet (that can get through corporate firewalls, at least). Maybe I’m weird, but I would rather have done the work myself and kept all the money, rather than pay someone else to ensure I spend my days watching the clock slowly tick away in boredom.
