@Swarthy

And how radioactive is the coal waste?

Re: Zealot

Hi Tim. The zealot was an accident. I changed it because it was too harsh. But, obviously, the wrong version got submitted. Mea Culpa. No harm done if it provokes discussion.

I am anti-acid rain, anti-nuclear waste having to be guarded for millenia, anti-fossil-fuel-burning, pro- energy from sun, wind, wave, tide, geothermal (with some caveats on some of them). I am also pro- reducing energy use and soil, air and water pollution. Etc etc. Sustainability is probably my mantra, if I have one. But it has to be tempered with reality.

However, the article wasn't about what I thought. It was about evangelism in general.

Cheers

I'll put you down as an evangelist, then?

Inverting the pyramid

Hi folks. Thanks for the comments. Please keep 'em coming.

The business of 'inverting the pyramid' is a good one, where bosses become the servants to the workforce. The two-screen one too: I'm using two at the moment and I really hadn't thought in productivity terms, more convenience. But one probably equates to the other.

As for the big trousers. Hmm, I'm with you there. I've almost stopped using the car, but then if I don't get out much anyway....

Geothermal

Nothing jokey - sorry. But a major upside is, presumably, no greenhouse gases. The downside is that too much cold water going down these holes might cool the planet in a few trillenia.

NCR and 'Tower' should be a warning

NCR tried to strong-arm everyone to put TM after every mention of 'tower' because they'd trademarked it. Guess who ended up looking stupid?

baby unboom

We're already heading for trouble finding enough tax payers to support increasing numbers of OAPs.

Perhaps the good doctors are peering through the wrong end of their telescope.

Anyone know how much CO2 goes into building a wind turbine?

Interesting article. Thanks.

It would be interesting to know how much energy, raw materials and CO2 emissions go into creating, shipping and installing a wind turbine before it is switched on. Land and sea varieties. Then the relevant bits could be mapped on to energy generated and CO2 emissions saved in operation.

Someone must know.

Re: Self selection bias

Dr Stephen Jones

I presume you haven't read the report. In it we cover the dangers of self selection and why this does not invalidate what we learnt.
