Apple won't let Commodore onto its baby

No Surprises

Yet another reason why you shouldn't buy an iPhone! The control Apple have is excessive and far too restrictive. What's the point in having that massive screen and all that power when all you can do is browse a basic website and flick around some icons on your screen. Give me a Blackberry or HTC anyday!

PS3 players prefer gaming to bonking

Partners?

They managed to find 1130 PS3 owners who had partners, impressive!

Apple cracks down on rogue app stores

Monopoly?

Now if Microsoft did something like this the EU would want another few hundred million at least! And yes I hate all Apple products (they're marketing is utter genius to be fair, convincing people to buy overpriced poor products) and find my HTC Touch Pro rather good since I can install anything I want on it and not be restricted to the will of one company.

EA: No DRM for Sims 3

Who buys these games?

This doesn't bother me since I haven't played the Sims since the original, which was novel at the time but got boring very very quickly. The kind of people who would buy this will probably just keep the disc in the PC since that is all they will play all the time, you know the type!

British International Motor Show cancelled

No real loss

It was crap last year. The boats were more interesting! Geneva is a far superior show and on the plus side you aren't being baked alive by the summer heat and no A/C!! Then again, Geneva may well get canned next time around too.

PC World cuts off Capita call centre contract

Someone learnt how to add!

Looks like someone finally realised that paying senior managers at an outsourcing company costs money! Also, I didn't think PC World could even run its self, employing staff who know nothing and charging prices that are quite frankly ridiculous!

Barclays heralds new wave of wallet-waving

I can see little benefit

I fail to see how the current chip and pin system is slow! The bottleneck is when the terminal itself taking ages to accept and process the payment. Not sure how waiving your magic card will make it much quicker. Also, I already use my card for everything. 73p is my best to date in a well known supermarket which I know probably cost them about that much to accept my card.

It will only be the big retailers who get setup with this tech anyway as they can afford the processing costs. Small shops just won't bother until cash costs more to bank than accepting cards, which I can see happening soon enough since the banks control this too.

Asus' angular laptop-of-the-future designs spied

Thumb Up

I want one!

Now that is COOL. Looks superb, far more funky than a Dell in some crap colour and it's not a Mac, bonus!

Am I missing something?

Did I miss something. This seems useless, such a tiny expansion really would not be much use. I was expecting another FULL screen to slide out from the side and with the thickness of the main screen bezel it's quite pointless really. But maybe that's just me!

Banks told to spend £1bn on new IT to prepare for failure

There's a surprise!

No surprise there. Most, if not all Banks' IT gear is years out of date and it really amazes me how they don't break more often.

On another point, how can it cost c. £900m over 5 years but only take 18 months to put in place… or did I do my maths calculations wrong?

MSI mobo ditches Bios for EFI

John Scott

Handy

Well that is handy, I happen to own the Platinum. Not sure why we need a GUI BIOS, it just means people who don't know what they are doing will get lulled in to a false sense of Windows esq security instead of scared away from a serious looking BIOS which should only be used by people who know what they are doing!

Apple swipes £121 for 'free' MobileMe trial

John Scott
Alert

No Surprises!

Well this isn't a surprise. If this was any other company they would have been hung out to dry by now but because it's Apple and for some reason, as someone already mentioned, their fans are more than happy to pay way over the odds for what amounts to out of data tech, they have gotten away with this just about.

Then again the fact that people are even considering paying for something that can be easily put together on most other phones for free just re-enforces the stupidity of most of these users.

I personally use an HTC TYTNII, with the new version out soon, there is no reason to consider anything else!

O2 starts 3G iPhone stampede - and runs away

WHY?

My first thought was, WHY? Why the hell are people bothered?! It is still a bloody iphone and that means it's not very well equipped and costs an absolute fortune. I for one am waiting for the new HTC slider, out in Sep which walks (thought I would be polite) all over this excuse for a phone.
