drop in the bath

@John Chadwick

I'm not convinced of the argument there - you could drop your kindle in the bath, but you'd buy a new one with the insurance money, resync and carry on where you left off.

Besides, there's no reason why a kindle-like device couldn't be made more waterproof than a book. Why, it could even incorprate a flotation device :-)

I'm more put off by the DRM/sharing side - I like to lend my books to people, but how can I do that with an ebook, legally? I suppose I could lend someone the ebook reader itself..

I'm not really for ebooks and readers myself, but I think they have their place.

yes, but...

Her conviction wasn't overturned, it was just the sentancing that was lowered. She's still guilty.

@Tim - I don't think she got her collar felt for downloading, but for sharing (distributing).

safari on windows

@s.me

If you were sitting in front of Safari you could well be using XP. Although I agree, fairly unlikely.

dumb

UBS did this several times in the 4.5 years I worked there. 5% here, 10% there. Some people leave, the ones that stay have v low morale.

The only good thing is that you might be able to claw back the rate loss on your next renewal, so long as you find yourself temporarily indispensible...

yuck

The interface might look like outlook, but it doesn't feel like it.

First impressions.... overrun with ads and can't resize the preview area.

Doesn't work in Safari.

Even Apple managed to do a better job of AKAXing their webmail.

you sure?

"Spectrum names?" you means Sinclair home computer names?

The ZX80 came out in 1980 and the ZX81 came out in 1981. They both used a Z80 cpu. As did the speccy. AFAIC the ZX80/81 were named after the year and the speccy coz it was in colour.

apple drm

"proprietary and closed framework for digital rights management gives us headaches".

Previously, the BBC was using WMV and some custom DRM component and forcing users to use XP + SP2. So that was non-proprietary and open?

Which version of Wii internet channel?

Wii internet channel was upgraded a few days back - did you test with this version? Also, the WII internet channel is still a free public beta and will be a cost channel when done. I don't know whether the PS3 version is considered finished.
