This law is ridiculous and will create many problems and solve none. In fact, I expect it will lead to more rape because people who otherwise would sit at home looking at CP (disgusting as that is) are more likely to go out and offend to get a kick.

'Extreme porn' law could criminalise millions

James Cleveland
Flame

WHAT.

First porn, then dissent.

I can't believe this has got as far as it has, we're supposed to be a free country. This law wouldn't solve anything and just criminalize something that would otherwise be regulated.

It would drive production underground and endanger everyone involved. Anyone who agrees with this is a complete frackwit.

Well that would be highly illegal. They were just having a bit of fun. Nothing illegal about visiting the URL - I expect most of the hits on those URLs were people simply visiting links given to them by friends.

I don't think anyone could get sued or prosecuted over this. Its just too hard to prove malicious intent.

Re: Techies take things far too seriously sometimes....

But joe, you're missing the point. I doubt this bill will do anything to prevent e-crime. Why? Because most of the people actually doing damage are a) Overseas and b) Not afraid to commit crime anyway.

All this will do is make our businesses softer targets as we are disadvantaged by cutting off our security resources.

Re: Let's be realisitic

Locked in? I don't think so. Of all the people I know that have iPods, very little use the iTunes store, and the ones that do I convert very quickly. Winamp I find is more effective for managing my pod than iTunes itself :) iPods are excellent though, I fully plan to get a classic 160gb, as my 60GB's lockswitch is busted and I voided my warranty :/ I just find that their aesthetic, build quality and general functionality are great. Oh for FLAC, custom metatag sorting and a tonne of other crap. But a man can dream, eh :]

It was nice of them to give the iPods away though, publicity stunt or not.

ISPs fault

it really is - if they didn't need to oversell due to not spending enough on infrastructure, they wouldn't have issues with capacity that mean they have to traffic shape torrenting and noone would use encryption.

'Happy slapping' vids prompt Brown to push net filters

James Cleveland

Gmm

Andy - I know where you're coming from, but this is not about ISP side filtering and is in a completely different direction - this is about informing parents that they can block their kids from seeing a small amount of the violence on the net. (ha ha)

jeremy - I personally found that once a censoring software (or any piece of software) was put in my way in any shape of form, my number one priority was to get around and destroy it. This meant I learned a lot more about computers than if I was just handed my free internet on a plate ;] If it wasn't for censoring proxies, I wouldn't know half what I know about CGIproxies etcetera.

BioShockers delivered from DRM hell

James Cleveland

I love the way

That they screw legit consumers and pirates get away unscathed.

Its just completely the wrong direction to take. Don't they get it? Who on earth has a brain small enough to make these decisions, it is ridiculous. There is absolutely no reason to have copy protection beyond checks for internet play (which is pretty effective in stopping pirates multi-using a single key).
