T.I.M
for those feeling nostalgic, T.I.M is available on iOS. (possibly android too?) not quite as good as the original, but not bad for a stumble down memory lane.

as a (reasonably) young person, I am hugely impressed with all this private space travel nonsense. I wish them all the best of luck, and long may it continue.
and my granny spends most of her time in a wooden box in the ground, no interest in tech, but no real interest in breathing either, or, well, doing anything much of anything really.
Can't have different people of similar demographics having differing views and opinions now can we....
don't give 'em ideas
i used to have something similar, but simpler (only one instrument) on my PC, cant for the life of me remember what it was called...
counting on your fingers in base 2 is great, can count up to 1111111111, much higher than the 10 your limited to in base 10.

seeing as most covers / cases for the iPad 2, fit the new iPad, due to the (very) slight difference in size. Can the same be said for iPad3 covers fitting the iPad2?
how do you intend to download a different browser without using the one they gave you?
as a former iphone 3g, and 4 and current 4s owner, i am surprised that this actually looks quite tempting. it's gonna be a while before i'm in the market for something new, but when I am, i might give this a look.
I wish people would get passed the, 'no alternate browsers' in iOS nonsense.
As well as Safari (obviously) i also have Mercury and Diigo installed, and in fact if you go to the app store and search for "browser" you get a whole f*cking ream of them (including opera).
I'm not saying Apple aren't control freaks, but in this case, the here say, is exactly that.
Using 299 MB of your 8457 MB for me.
I think it differs which how much you use, mine shows 3% full, would imagine yours might show similar.
I am quite excited to see the beginning of civilian space travel.
did that with my 4s a couple of weeks ago, was at a club, getting a bit active, phone flew out of (buttoned) external breast pocket, still in mint condition. (did replace the £1.50 for 3 screen protector(which is not noticeable in normal operation))
The thing that I don't get, is it is called 'contactless payments' yet you make contact between the reader and sticker / card / phone / whatever....
Pay-by-bonk is much better and more accurate. If it was widely adopted as the name for this 'new' tech craze, more people might get on board
The friendly South American River company are quite good for buying CD's from (at least in my experience) just this week (Tuesday) I ordered 5 CD's of varying age and mainstrremness and most of them turned up today (Thursday) the rest should be here by Tuesday (would be sooner but for the bank holidays)
first was at the british film museum in london. In one area they had a large (but not cinema sized) maybe 80 inch screen, that appeared to be floor projected, that was projecting vivid 3d images, actually looked lke they were floating, projected hologram style. Now, these were just objects, i think they had a shoe, and a football, but they were spinning and in good colour, and, no glasses needed. was a, 'look what we can do now, with a bit of work, could be really good' type thing.
2nd, was at the planetarium in NYC's museum of natural history. wasn't 3d as such, and again, no glasses, but was so impressive, that it felt like 3d, just because of the massive curved ceiling based screen.
3d in cinemas though, i can take it or leave it, i've seen a few, not particularly impressed by any of them, and as many others have mentioned, I saw Avatar in 3d at the imax, also watched it at home when it was broadcast on TV, and i was finding it easier to watch on the TV becasue it was all in focus, all the time.
I think that is my main bug with 3d films, is that you are told which bit of the frame to focus on, because as Shakje mentioned, apart fromt the 3d elements, its all out of focus....
that's as may be, but it isn't going to /help/ them, is it.....
"How does the reCaptcha make audible the unknown number?"
How is reading something out supposed to help deaf people?
No one ever does.....
What are they thinking, I can go faster than that on my pedal powered bike.
Shame about the price, seems like a pretty neat idea, beats an electric car for sure
I'm also nearing the point where I'm going to stop reading these articles, and just wait till September to see if a new phone is released, until the point that Cook (or one of his cohorts) unveils the thing, there is no way to know, or anyone to really believe, as to what it is actually going to be like......
the thing that always gets me is how much the picture changes when you stop comparing iOS to android, and start looking at iPads vs Samsung galaxy tabs, motorola zooms, asus transformers, HTC fliers etc etc
Every sale of an iOS tablet device, is an iPad. Every sale of an android device, is one of any of dozens of different devices, and I think this is what Apple knows. They may have a (slightly) dwindling share of the slablet /software/ market, but their position in the hardware market still seems to be pretty strong.
not sure how they'd do it, but how about, first view on iPlayer, free, for those (license payers) that missed the broadcast. subsequent views pay-to-view, or pay for series link etc, but also make content that has been paid for available to that user indefinitely.
I would not be happy being told that not only do I have to pay to watch something again, but that should I want to watch it a third (forth, fifth...) time, that I will have to pay again (and again, and again.....)
or, you could just use a network like o2, that does let you tether (within the limits of your data cap, on the right tariff) , and use the personal hotspot feature built into iOS.....
I do this on the odd occasion that i need data on my ipad when away from wifi, quite useful, massive saving on buying the 3g model and have extra monthly payments to make.
"Given that they need to connect to a computer running iTunes their desire to lose the computer isn't going to work."
errr, no you dont. Not since iOS5.
while i have been sitting reading this article, I have updated my iPad to iOS 5.1, wirelessly, and also updated all the apps that have been waiting for updates. If i want to, i by music from the iTunes store, which goes straight to my iPad, and also my iPhone.
For the record, I do have 2 desktop (windows) pc's at home, and use both (fairly) regularly, and I cant see that that is going to change. One of these I hold my iTunes library on, but it is no longer 'required' for updating iDevices.
after watching that several times, i still cant understand why the initial complaint came about. I mean, that advert would never have been shown on TV, surely? It's just far too long.......
Not to mention all the bare flesh, breasts and nipples, surely just not going to be shown on TV, right?
So, that leads me to believe that someone has found a (slightly) raunchy video, advertising raunchy underwear, on a website for a manufacturer of raunchy underwear, and has decided to be offended by it. Why where they on said site in the first place?
This is my main question for these 'e-cars'. It's all well and good lording their 'eco-friendliness' but you still have to pay for the electric to keep them running.
If it costs more for me to have it on charge every(other) night, than it does to fill up on petrol every week or so, then what's the point?
(on the other hand, if it costs significantly less to keep the car charged, than fuelled, then where do i sign up?)
Maybe, Apple are patenting all this stuff now, so that some time in the future it can fall through a tear in the fabric of space, in to the past, and make someone a lot of money. (or, maybe that has already happened...)
And yes, the man was a genius.
".....Evi was too good to pull...."
Just had a quick look at it on the appstore, and was more than slightly put of by the raft of 1* reviews....
Only lets you chose from the inputs that has things input into them (others are grayed out) lets you change on screen labels to helpful things like Game, DVD, etc...
but after seeing this ( http://twitpic.com/8dykcj ) recently, I'm not sure that I want to be trusting CNN for my news reporting.
Being a bit pendantic here, but...
If in 2011 we were 'expecting' the iPhone 5, and the iPhone 4s was released instead (the 5th iPhone to be released) how can we still be expecting the iPhone 5 to show up, ever. The 5th iPhone has come and gone, just with a different name.
i've actually found typing on my ipad to be pretty painless. not so easy to do while holding the thing (which itself has been helped by the ability to split the keyboard), but prop it up (using the case as a stand) and i can knock out a pretty decent speed / accuracy. Not as good as an old style keyboard, but that's not really that surprising. Is it?
I've been craving a Tripel recently, but not sure where I can get one from in my parts.
The impression that I got, from what I heard about this, a week or so ago, was that through this exercise, they were trying to attract people from out side the 'usual' groups. People who, in turn, might find the idea of working for GCHQ for £25k quite appealing.
Agreed, a uni graduate may well be able to get more elsewhere, but I don't think they were who they were tageting.
Blessed be his noodly appendages.
Lets just hope that The Martians don't see the sending of a heat ray robot to their planet as a sign of aggression.
The TCO for my current windows box that i have had for about 18months, is currently, exactly what i paid for it in store.
Much the same as most other PC's that i have brought, apart from the occasional hardware upgrades, which, correct me if im wrong, but you cant really go round upgrading your nice shiney mac book can you?
Maybe all that time it was out of contact, it was being 'interfered' with by some 4th (or maybe even 5th or 6th) party. Now that they are finished with it, it has popped back, ready for instructions it can ignore, before heading back to earth to DESTROY ALL HUMANS
I thought the install process was pretty simple for win7. I've had to run through it several times (on different machines) and every time, I'm impressed by how quick and easy it is. If they have really managed to make it 'easier' good on 'em.
They need to get this junk in electric cars, and quick.
Im gonna need one hell of a shark to mount that on.....
[Note to self, must try harder]
On a separate note, I am sad to see just how many people on here know not only the presenters names, but some of the contestants, I though we were better than that.
Its on ITV, on a Saturday, right? Even that is more than I want to know.
All I want is a high capacity MP3 player. Dont want a touch screen, don't want video, games, even a colour screen isn't necessary, just a device I can put in my pocket, with all my music (80- 100 GB) (and nothing else) on.
The only high capacity devices I see these days are iPod touches (or android similars) which are just the same as the phone i already have (but without the phone, and still not quite a large enough disk), and far too expensive. Is it too much to ask?
Upgraded to 5.0.1 on friday, charged phone saturday night. sent maybe 10 text messages on sunday, didn't use for anything else, had to charge again last night as charge had dropped to around 25%.
I don't really think much more testing is needed.
then you may be able to see it during the day (much like you can see the moon during the day)
or if it is sufficiently black, it could pass in front of something that is not black, like the moon......
Will we be able to see it?
Although, of course in Blighty at this time of year, cloud cover is a dead cert.
I'm not sure, but I think I prefer this idea to that of pulling my phone (card etc..) out and touching to a reader. Partly because of the opt in nature of it. It seems to remove the possibility of an unsavoury character standing a little to close to me on the bus / train, and electronically robbing me with their high gain antennas.
However, I do get the feeling that there is something deeply wrong with this, i just cant put my finger on it....
