Linux to spend eternity in shadow of 'little blue E'

Phil Hannent

Agressive and short-sighted

Wow, clearly the writer has some anger management issues "its only an operating system".

The main problem you are talking about is how intuitive the interface is and how well the operating system manages the computer for you.

If you take the argument that people want it to look like Windows then you just have to look at the failure of the distributions that try to mimic windows, they plus wine have a small market.

The only good thing about the E is the title. That was well worth Microsoft paying those millions for. Ask an internet virgin to connect to the internet and when they see "Internet Explorer" vs "Firefox Web browser" which are they going to pick?

Luke Skywalker's lightsabre goes on sale

Happy

I'd buy it for 10x that (if I had the money)

Why is this up for sale, who is selling it? This is a historical treasure, is George Lucas short of money?

Thumb Up

This is GREAT news

What is everybody complaining about?

This is more work which means overtime and more pay, just what is needed right before Christmas.

So can we expect in 5 years time that Foundry will have gone bust and AMD to be turned into a patent troll?

Thomas Crown blagger recruits decoy dupes on internet

They will get him

I imagine they will get him. He will have used an Internet cafe local to him, he will be in the local news so someone with lots of cash will show up.

Plus how is he going to keep quiet about it and not be tempted to do it again?

Tories would decentralise NHS IT

Phil Hannent

Decentralize is the wrong word

Standardise would be better. If central NHS IT just defined a data interchange format (in the same way that HTTP and HTML are) is then ISV would rush to create software (like Netscape and MS did) to sell to all the different NHS trusts, competition would ensure the software worked with the standard and that they didn't fail.

Hospital software would talk to other hospital software to ask about patients, a distributed decentralised network with built in redundancy, now there is an idea.

The problem is that any decision such as this is made on the golf course not by the people actually who know the best course of action.

EC to drag fibre from incumbents' greedy paws

@JonB

Advertising creates surges in demand like that.

In my experience you are better off paying more for a lower contention broadband, the lower the broadband price the higher the contention and the higher your ping rate.

If your downloading videos or music you will not care about ping rates but for gaming you have to pay a little bit more to get off the same pipe as then P2Pers.

File system

What I want to know is when we are going to move away from FAT as the default format for portable flash. Having a better file system would improve reliability.
