Naked Win 7 still vulnerable to most viruses

Let Me Stop You Right There,,,

"Get a Mac", blah, blah. This should take care of hundreds of comments. Point is once Mac starts supporting 95% of the worlds market with all of the interoperability issues (hardware/software) and can still say what they usually say, then I will listen; until then, grab a pint and p**s off with you.

Peanut Gallery Run Amok

Sheesh, most of you lemmings are trashing Vista without having given it a chance. All of the issues of its initial release have been ironed out and the O/S is stable. How quickly we forget that XP had the same problems on its initial release. You all let the propaganda of the press sway your vote without being fair. I do realize alot of the critics are Apple/Linux Nazi's (some under the guise of Windows users) who wouldn't be fair if their lives depended on it but aside from that the only possible way you would still have problems with Vista is if you were running it on 486, DX optional.

Frakking Stupid Lawyers

Now we need Captain of Engineers, Pierre François Xavier Bouchard to come back to life and sue the frak out of Rosetta Stone for capitalizing on the discovery of his stone and impinging his trademark rights to the use of the name - plus unspecified punitive damages. Sue 'em back to the Sixth Dynasty Bouchard, Sixth Dynasty. Sucks I can't say "global traveler" anymore without paying someone...although this is a educational use that falls under "fair use"....er.... no one's trademarked that yet, right?

Gods dammit. I bought into the Vista Ultimate non-event - twice, then choked back the RAGE when they didn't offer a 7 Ultimate upgrade on the cheap and bought a couple copies of frakking Pro. NOW, they tell us there's a family pack a.k.a multi-user pack, which is what I wanted in the first place. C'mon Linux weenies, get that open source community going and add decent game support. I'll jump ship in a heartbeat. Frak! Frak! Frak! Frakkin' toasters.

Behind Microsoft's IE-free, Windows-for-Europe ploy

John Freeman
Unhappy

Common Sense Really

If you have a product, do you think its fair to be forced to advertise other products within yours? I think MS made the best choice to please all parties involved, but the EU whiners won't have any of it until MS provides Google and Opera banners during the start-up sequence. Next thing EU regulators will want - you will see an autorun sequence when you first insert the disk. "Choose the OS you wish to install", it will ask. When you choose Linux or something else it will have a link to direct you to the competitors website...unless the EU wants MS to include the other systems, in which case it will be copyright infringement, which will bring in the **AA mafia software equivalent. Sad face, because at the heart of it all regulation of free markets is pitiful.

Sims 3 pirated 180,000 times in three days

Bloc Vote?

Everyone seems to think Pirates move en masse but it's simply not the case. There are pirates that will download to evaluate, then there are those who could give a rip and make a copy anyway. I'd have to say the majority are probably looking for a decent version of the game to see if it's worth buying, but at today's intro prices of games (59.99), more and more are probably just downloading it. The company should just lower the price (like they do in China) and make up for the revenue in in-game adverts...or just make better games that are worth the money. Not having played it, I'm going out on a limb and saying any game that has a 3,4,5, etc., after it is probably light on the creativity and heavy on the greed, like most movies...except "Aliens", which was better than the first. Plus, "the Sim's 3"?!? C'mon, why waste time on that when you can go down to Best Buy and pick up some classics (I just found "Rise of Nations") for under 10 bucks. Plus, would you really want your beauty soiled by a disk you got off a torrent site? It's all full of trojans and viruses. Anyway, that's just my two cents.

Da?

I'd also say I have a pretty good grasp on history too, Stuart, I know that every...EVERY people/nationality/race what-have-you got to where they are today but subjugating, displacing or otherwise exterminating other people - even those in the Middle East you are so quick to appease. Hell, by your logic we should go try and cram 6 billion people into a tiny site in Africa where man came from, then all the lands, resources, whatever that have ever been taken would be set right. Of course then we'd have to kill ourselves because we couldn't make it up to the Neanderthal's, could we, Stuart? Thumbs down to you mate, I'm all about stomping that bleeding violin you've got playing for these people.

Windows 7 and the Linux lesson

John Freeman
Stop

And the Point?

Another opportunity to bash Microsoft. Ubuntu got the code out in time, so what? Has that done anything to improve their market share or make them anymore than a niche system for enthusiasts, servers and people who 'have' to choose free? I think not? I'm still waiting for a Linux distro to show up that I can pop on my hardware, then go to Best Buy and pick up a game that will load without tweaks to 20 million lines of code. (go ahead with the insults on my intelligence - as is common when the sanctity of Linux is questioned, however, I'm capable of amending code to get things working but as a consumer, that should be done already so I don't have to bother). I think its a smart thing for MS to wait and get it right. Xp wasn't perfect out of the gate, neither was Vista, but they are both solid now (begin flames from fanboys of niche systems) and so can Windows 7. I think once the OS is out on the street it will do really well as time and market share will tell.

Stop sign - for pointless articles aimed at bashing MS; then again it is the Reg :-P.

Arrrrr Mateys

Hate to be the pirate (in the "hijack your sense of self-righteousness" way) of the group and hence the avatar, but I've had no problems with Vista Ultimate. It's not the dog you say so please just go back to your niche systems and let the world move on. Windows will always be "the" option until the other guys gain widespread game support or can effectively virtualize games for the masses (i.e. the average Joe won't have to tweak a hundred lines of code to run it properly). Apple is closer than Linux, but market forces have weighed and measured the two OS's and found them wanting compared to MS. Don't get me wrong, I'm no MS fan-boy, but you have to give them credit for making so much current and legacy c*r*a*p work together or close to together on one operating system while trying to move forward in supporting the business, gaming, and whathaveyou worlds. The only thing I am p*i*s*s*e*d about Vista is that I will have to shell out $190 for a new operating system in a matter of months, partially due to holier than thou MS trashers who probably haven't put any serious time in the OS. As for the two mentioned here, the lawsuit should be dismissed or included with the other one; whatever happened to researching something before buying it. Americans are so pathetic we have to sue everyone, sigh.

Ok, my bit is said, commence with the fan-boy diatribes on my intelligence, blah, blah for using Vista.

Critical Thinking

Have any of you tried Vista lately? I was a die hard XP user, believing all the hype spewed here and elsewhere about how bad Vista is. I waited until SP1 came out then went for the OEM of Vista Ultimate SP1. I was expecting loads of headaches which never appeared. I didn't get the UAC messages asking to confirm every single action, and very few of my applications were incompatible (those that were I loaded onto an XP virtual system). My machine isn't top of the line but there were no compatibility issues. I actually kind of like the OS. Does that make me bad? Not really. I'm just an average user (I wish I was paid by MS or some other big corporation for those doubting Thomases who think I might be firmly in the MS camp) which brings me to the point that reporters/commenters here have a responsibility to present a fair view of the OS. MS may be an evil corporation to many, but they are just that, a corporation supplying what the market wants and trying to make a profit - the basic pillar of business. I know many here are Linux fans, believe me when I say Linux has come a long way, but its not ready for the mass market (i.e. us dumb users) and without wider game support among developers, it will never be more than an enthusiast OS. Maybe you should give Vista another try before bashing it so much.

Jolly Roger because I'm going against the popular opinion.
