It's not as if there aren't already at least two languages called M

Can anyone think of any other reasonable reason to remove the battery from a cell

Well yeah - to use the battery in your other phone. Or perhaps the battery cover had fallen off. Or perhaps the charging connector had bust and the battery needed to be charged in a separate phone. Lots of reasons.

And "Reiser never programmed Linux which is the cernel after all" - where do you think the filesystem code lives, pray?

Dear AC

It is still the Union Jack - when you fly it on a ship. And the Union Flag otherwise.

And to Liam - I'm sure more than 1/2 the people in this country think it's their flag, because it is.

More pointless debate on the interweb, hurrah!

Oh, and the Jolly Roger, because that's the nearest the icon set has to a flag.

Waste

"as a public-private partnership, it had a tighter focus on waste and expenditure than public organisations"

If only that were the case in .uk

PS wonder why they didn't use 112

Racism?

St George was Turkish anyway....

This whole thing

> This whole Islam vs America/UK thing kicked off when the Jews were given Arab land (i.e. Israel) to settle in

Aren't you forgetting the Crusades?....

adult community

> “violence in a manner patently offensive to prevailing standards in the adult community” should carry a legally enforced age restriction.

Porn stars get to rate the games then?

(Paris - she knows all about the "adult community")

Broken

So when there's a big disaster, and people are trying to text their loved ones, the system will be jammed up with this official spam. Thought it through much?

Although I suppose the US probably doesn't have as much of a texting culture as Europe, as you can tell by the design of the iPhone.

"I think the way is now clear to stand NAO up and go warm," said Chertoff.

I keep forgetting, they stopped speaking English in the US a long time ago.

HOLD, RETREAT, ESCAPE or ABORT?

Looks like they're still running it on DOS.

Another chance

"Why do we keep on giving these people another chance?"

Oh I know, every 4 years we give someone a chance in 10 (or 11) Downing Street and they always mess it up.

@Andre

These people get paid?

Forgotten Tech?

Just how is this Forgotten Tech? :-)

We had a whole room of BBCs at school - everyone was playing Elite and whenever you were about to dock with a spacestation you'd have to find whoever had the floppy disk last and put it in your drive.

Oh and that's "British Broadcasting Corporation" microcomputer - IIRC some Swedish firm had BBC as a trademark and our BBC hadn't bothered trademarking its own acronym, so they had to rename the machine.

PS for those suffering Elite withdrawal symptoms, Oolite for Mac/Linux is the next best thing.

Aliens, because that's who we were zapping in our Cobra Mk IIIs.

wrong title?

Why is this under the URL

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03/11/phorm_shares_plummet/

? I see nothing about Phorm shares plummeting - I was looking for the link to the share graph page.

Help me with my maths here

According to that URL, these things use 3 x CR2 batteries. According to http://www.ebattery.co.kr/pdf/lithium/camera/CR2.PDF those batteries can deliver 2.5A in a pulse at 3V. So 3 batteries x 3V x 2.5A is 22.5VA. Divide by 900000V and you get 25pA. Is this painful? Am I missing something?

Missing the point

Never mind DRM or not - is there actually anything worth watching these days?

Sean Purdy

That's a new one

"women of notable stature" - there's a euphemism I haven't heard before.

Malware

"Research by Google's anti-malware team on three million unique URLs on more than 180,000 websites automatically installed malware onto vulnerable PCs."

Why is Google's research installing malware onto PCs?

Sean Purdy

Re: I hear...

That's probably because "Within 10 minutes Claranet contained and halted the malicious activity" i.e. the script probably worked alphabetically and didn't get time to do the whole lot.

ITTMTS Rudy Coombs HANDTYFP

Originally written by Rudy Toombs for Amos Milburn but first recorded by John Lee Hooker.

So Toombs gets the ASCAP royalties and Hooker or Thoroughgood get the RIAA mechanical royalties. Or something like that.
