@gaz

Yeah, but that was just a logging machine, and the crew fell unconcious when the chili from the night before finally settled in. (I'm not joking! Watch the episode!)

Civilian RADAR doesn't work quite like that...

Civilan RADAR systems, especially at international airports, actually rely on a plane's transponder. Military systems are the ones that physically send out RADAR waves that bounce back. That's how they can track planes that TURN OFF THEIR TRANSPONDER.

Great...

So we've been killing Martians the entire time we've been looking for them?

Just wait until we start sending robots to other planets. I'm sure some of them (like Saturn) will have more easily provoked life-forms than Mars.

DARN IT!

I'm an uber-Star Wars geek, so when I saw that IBM was shipping SSDs, I thought they were finally making a Super Star Destroyer! Now I have to wait another 500 years. :(

Free speech?

What the heck does free SPEECH have to do with playing video games, of any rating?

Gabriel Vistica

About that heat map...

What about the countries with EXACTLY 340751 infected computers?

@Andrew

That works even better when you do it with greased pigs!

Don't blame the dev team

Yes, their code was pathetic, and full of bugs, and it barely ran at all.

But the people who are really to blame are the "concept people" who tried to make the developers put in certain features, even though the developers knew they wouldn't work very well.

Also to blame is the entire marketing team, who decided to bill Vista as the best thing ever (including sliced bread). They should've been a little more realistic, and then, IF it took off, they could up the hype a bit.

"Don't forget the sharks"

Or the frickin' lasers.

Or the mutant, ill-tempered, sea bass.

Gabriel Vistica

wow

From all the technobabble and big words that no-one could possibly understand, I thought I was watching Star Trek: TNG again!

@ AC

Careful...

SOCA might think you're on the side of the scammers and raid you too.

Television license?

And I thought Microsoft was bad! The BBC has them all beat!

Gabriel Vistica

Cool...

"Our volume-license customers can always downgrade to any previous version of Windows"

Does that mean that if I buy enough licenses, I can downgrade all the way Windows 3.1?

Gabriel Vistica

They got it half right...

"IT vendors always have a theme, because they have to tell budget-time stories to CEOs and presidents who don't necessarily know a lot about computers other than how expensive and cranky they can be. (Actually, that's the system administrators, but that is a different story...)"

Right on the first part. Only sometimes right on the second part (I should know; I'm be one of them from time to time). Though in the case of the BOFH, the second part IS always true.

"It took the Government techies so much time to realize that the email system of the most powerful man in India was not working properly for 3 months!"

That is pathetic.

Wow. That is Interesting.

And we care about this, why?

Paris, because she doesn't care either.

Accretion disks

"The matter falling into the black hole doesn’t go directly in, but orbits around the black hole forming a flat accretion disc, much like the soap scum on water orbiting around an open drain."

Oh, yay. Intergalactic soap scum. Another page in the Hitchhikers' Guide.

HUH?!

"In this case, we are communicating the availability of an update that affects your ability to perform subsequent updates, including security updates. Therefore, this advisory does not address a specific security vulnerability; rather, it addresses your overall security."

Doesn't that fit the definition of "security update"?!

Too many?!

Only two is two many?! That ridiculous.

I had WAY too many in Vista. I work in my company's IT department, and I do a lot of OS reinstallations. When I did Vista installs, I was getting one every time I tried to change a Control Panel setting. Sometimes, it would even close Explorer because it was trying to do one of the good-ol' illegal operations.
